We hope everyone had a restful and joyful Easter break 🐣✨

As we settle back in, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the importance of spending quality time with those we care about. This simple act is deeply connected to our esteem needs, especially around belonging and identity.

At times, we may feel uncertain or disconnected in these areas, which can influence how we relate to others—both positively and negatively. The desire for acceptance, approval, and acknowledgment is completely natural, especially when our inner world feels shaken or compromised.

However, while external validation is important, the most powerful messages come from within. The way we speak to ourselves—the inner narrative we carry—has the greatest influence on our self-worth and sense of belonging. By nurturing a positive internal dialogue, we reinforce our identity, build resilience, and promote healthy, adaptive thinking patterns.

Let’s continue to challenge and shift maladaptive schemas—those old, unhelpful narratives that no longer serve us—so they can evolve into ones that support our growth, healing, and authentic connection with others.

Hey everyone!

It’s been a little while since our last post—things have been busy! I hope you’ve all been doing well.

Speaking of busy, let’s talk about overflowing to-do lists, endless commitments, and responsibilities that seem to multiply overnight. When life gets hectic, stress can creep in, making it even harder to manage everything. That’s why stress management, compartmentalization, and effective planning—both short- and long-term—are so important.

Breaking tasks into manageable sections and setting clear priorities can help prevent overwhelm. Short-term planning keeps us focused on immediate tasks, while long-term planning ensures we’re working towards bigger goals without burning out. But beyond managing tasks, we also need to manage ourselves. Giving yourself permission to pause, recharge, and restore balance isn’t just important—it’s necessary.

Our capacity isn’t static; it shifts and changes. That’s why tuning in and listening to our bodies is essential. Even the smallest moments—what I like to call the ‘1 percenters’—can make a big difference. A deep breath, a short walk, a mindful pause—these little things add up.

So, don’t forget to replenish what you give out. Prioritize yourself, manage stress effectively, plan wisely, and use compartmentalization to create space for what truly matters. Take time to re-energize, and have a wonderful rest of the week!

Hey all from UyM!

Wanted to share a moment I had today reviewing a case (happy moment).

As a therapist I’m required to assess and report often on the work and support provisioned. Today I am doing just that and it is very rewarding when reviewing a persons case and seeing such amazing growth.

These moments we cherish as professionals, it warms our hearts filling us with purpose.

Just wanted to share a great TED Talk about creativity and embracing our mistakes. This is another common area of practice we encounter that is important for us to be aware of.

Mistakes and successes are both integral parts of the human experience, shaping the way we grow and evolve. Yet, embracing our mistakes can be challenging, as it requires confronting vulnerabilities and acknowledging that we are fallible. This process, however, is essential to personal growth and meaningful development. When we accept our imperfections, we cultivate humility, which in turn opens us to change, new perspectives, and the opportunity to learn. The ability to reconcile with our mistakes is not just about self-acceptance; it is also about safeguarding our creativity—an indispensable aspect of who we are.

Creativity thrives in spaces where experimentation, failure, and reinvention are welcomed. Without the freedom to make mistakes, we risk stifling our imagination, leaving us trapped in rigid ways of thinking. Hope all have had an amazing week! 😃

Sharing another common space in practice we encounter to be mindful of.

Our growth and development are profoundly shaped by our experiences, which in turn influence our worldviews, narratives, and cognitive schemas. Adversity and trauma play a significant role in this process, often causing us to disconnect from the present moment as we carry the burdens of our past. This lingering weight can color our perceptions of the future, leading to anxiety, fear, or even a sense of hopelessness.

Accepting and integrating our past experiences is crucial for personal transformation. By acknowledging the lessons learned from adversity, we can reframe our narratives, empowering ourselves to take control of our lives. This process not only allows us to heal but also fosters resilience and a more optimistic outlook on the future.

Engaging in practices such as mindfulness, therapy, and self-reflection can facilitate this journey, enabling us to confront our past with compassion and clarity. MY MOB (Men Yarning Mens Only Business) is a free programme for men offered by UyM Therapies to support the men in our community.
