Skin Check Myth-Busters
Myth: "I don’t need a skin check because I always wear sunscreen."
Truth: Sunscreen reduces risk but doesn’t eliminate it. Regular skin checks are still essential. 🌞
Myth: "Skin cancer spots are always dark or obvious."
Truth: Skin cancers can be pink, red, pale, or flesh-coloured—sometimes they look like harmless blemishes. Only a GP or skin doctor can tell for sure.
Myth: "I’ve never been badly sunburnt, so I won’t get skin cancer."
Truth: Even everyday sun exposure adds up over time. Skin checks are important for everyone.
Myth: "Skin cancer only affects older people."
Truth: Melanoma is one of the most common cancers in young Australians (especially under 40). Regular checks are vital at any age. 👩🦱👨🦱
Myth: "I’ve had a skin check before, so I don’t need another one."
Truth: Skin changes can develop quickly. Annual (or more frequent) checks are recommended. 🗓️
Myth: "I tan easily, so I won’t get skin cancer."
