Dr John Copp Retirement
After more than 40 years of dedicated service to the Ipswich community, Dr John Copp will be retiring from surgical practice at the end of February.
Dr Copp has cared for generations of families, mentored countless clinicians, and helped build a standard of surgical care that our community is proud of. His commitment to patient‑centred care, clear communication, and surgical excellence has shaped the culture of our practice for decades. We know many patients will join us in expressing deep gratitude for his extraordinary contribution.
As Dr Copp steps back from operating, we are pleased to share that Dr Man‑Shun Wong will continue providing surgical care for all patients moving forward.
Dr Wong has been working closely alongside Dr Copp for several years and shares the same values of compassion, thoroughness, and high‑quality surgical practice. He is an experienced general surgeon with special interests in bariatric, endocrine, and minimally invasive surgery. Patients who have already met Dr Wong will know his calm manner, clear explanations, and genuine commitment to long‑term patient wellbeing.
This transition has been carefully planned to ensure continuity of care for all patients—whether you are awaiting surgery, attending follow‑up appointments, or seeking ongoing advice.
Our team remains here to support you through this change.
If you have any questions about your care or upcoming appointments, please contact the rooms.
Thank you for your trust, your kindness, and your support as we celebrate Dr Copp’s remarkable career and welcome the next chapter with Dr Wong.
Dr Copp's last visit to Mackay will be the 21/2, 22/2, 23/2.
