🍂 In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Metal element, associated with the Lung and Large Intestine and the Autumn season relates to:
🍁 The immune system
🍁 The skin and respiratory system
🍁 Reflection, grief, and letting go
Where the Earth element holds and nourishes, Metal invites us to release.
There is a natural turning inward as we enter the beginning of the Yin seasons, and an awareness of what we are ready to let go of, whether physically, emotionally, or energetically. Just as the trees begin to shed their leaves, we have an opportunity to do the same.
In Chinese medicine, this is not something to resist, but it is something to honour. Letting go is not about loss, but about making space for what is next.
The choices you make now, how you eat, rest, and care for your emotional health will shape how your body moves through Winter.
As we move further into the Metal season, supporting the Lung system becomes essential.
This can be done gently through:
🍂 Pears, which help moisten and support the lungs
🍂 Broths, to build qi and fluids
🍂 Light grains like barley to drain any damp
🍂 Warm, easy-to-digest meals
🍂 Journalling & breathing meditations to aid the connection to our needs
🍂 Acupuncture & moxibustion to support immunity and align with the season; and the addition of herbal remedies if there are imbalances that need more assistance than food as your medicine.
