The stars of ThRive clearly decided that waiting was overrated 🎄🐾

Left to their own devices for two whole minutes, they took matters into their own paws and opened their Christmas pressies themselves. On my return, the scene was pure festive chaos — wrapping paper everywhere, dog toys scattered across the floor, and two very proud pups happily munching on their pigs ear treats, looking extremely pleased with themselves.

Zero regrets.
Zero patience.
Maximum Christmas spirit ✨🐶🎁

🎄🐾 Merry Christmas from ThRive! 🐾🎄

As the year comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what an incredibly special year it’s been with Pet Therapy and Jam & Jive 🐶🎶

So many moments stand out — gentle pats and cuddles, quiet companionship, meaningful conversations, laughter, movement and music. These simple but powerful experiences continue to remind me just how much connection, joy and comfort animals and shared activities can bring.

Watching Bowie and Bandit bring smiles, calm and engagement into so many spaces has been a real privilege. I feel deeply grateful to be able to do this work and to share it alongside such caring, supportive communities.

I’m incredibly proud of what this year has held and am already looking forward to what next year will bring — more connection, more joy, and more meaningful moments through ThRive ✨💛

We are absolutely thrilled to introduce the newest (and furriest!) member of our pet therapy team... BUDDY! 🐶💙

Buddy is a 16-week-old Labradoodle with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. Don’t let his age fool you — this clever pup is already nailing his basic commands and showing incredible potential as a future therapy superstar!

We're so excited to expand our team so we can bring even more joy, connection, and cuddles to aged care homes across the region. With Buddy joining Bowie, we’ll be able to share the magic of animal-assisted therapy with more residents than ever before.

The new Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is called Support at Home. This program will replace the existing Home Care Packages (HCP) Program and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) Programme, starting July 1, 2025. Diversional/Recreational Therapists will be considered an essential support in this reform.

With the Federal Election approaching, it's time for urgent action on Leisure & Lifestyle in aged care!

The hours dedicated to lifestyle, recreational, and diversional therapy are shrinking, even as expectations continue to rise. Aged care residents deserve more than just clinical care—they deserve meaningful engagement, social connection, and a fulfilling quality of life.

🔹 We need MANDATED MINIMUM MINUTES for lifestyle and wellbeing.
🔹 We need proper recognition and funding for Leisure & Lifestyle professionals.
🔹 We need a government that values holistic, person-centered care led by qualified leisure and recreational staff who have the skills and knowledge to make a real difference.
