It was a fantastic, fulfilling and fun time at our fully booked Bubu Lovey’s Plant Based Educational Cooking & Dining Experience last night.
Our glowing guests were inspired by information about the huge human health and planet benefits of eating seasonal, local and organic plant-based foods, how to read and really understand the chemicals and pesticides and unpronounceable ingredients in many processed foods on food labels; yes including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free products, the science supporting plant-based diets in all stages of life and original tips and basics on creating delicious and nutritious plant-based meals.
We prepared, cooked and feasted on loads of animal (egg, meat and dairy), chemical, sugar, gluten and some nightshade (capsicum, eggplant and tomato) free basics, entrees mains and desserts including a new dish; “Alistair our Animal Saviour’s Apricot & Almond Meal Slice”, named, aptly after our legendry Vet to Death Row Animals, Alistair!
The Bubu Lovey’s Team save and rehome death row dogs but last night, we were honoured to be joined by the President of Wildlife Rescuers Inc. Sharon.
Sharon shared with us an emotional first-hand experience of rescuing, triaging, treating, dressing and most importantly saving bushfire affected kangaroos and other animals. She had just finished another 10+ hour day volunteering with other Wildlife Rescuers.
To keep going, her team meets daily to prepare and eat lunch together (plant based of course) to support each other through some very confronting, exhausting, sad yet rewarding times. It makes Sharon’s fulltime job as a High School Teacher and Year 8 Co-Ordinator seem a breeze. (Those that know, know this ‘aint easy)!
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during “Sharon’s Slide Show,” but there was warmth, seeing photos of some rescued and bandaged ‘roos named after old Nursery Rhyme characters; Georgie, Porgy, Puddin’ and Pie and high-end Paris Fashion House; Louis (and) Vuitton.
Are those names symbolic of the times we are facing: 18th and 19th century simplicity and 20th Century luxury colliding dangerously? Does this beg the question: Can we combine the “old fashioned” basic lifestyle and our rapidly changing modern world to live an ethical, healthy and sustainable life on this planet? Let us know what YOU think.
It was our privilege to donate all workshop fees (including costs) from the event directly to Wildlife Rescuers Inc. A humble and most graciously received donation of $1000 from our group of plant-based enquirers and enthusiasts.
The dedication and passion from this team of Wildlife Rescuers is nothing short of heroic. They are most deserving of endless praise and support for saving our native species and national symbol the kangaroo and, they receive no Government funding.
Thank you to our Bubu Lovey’s Plant Based Cooking & Dining Guests, Saint Sharon” and Wildlife Rescuers Inc. and Dr Alistair. We loved having you to share the knowledge and food and spread the word and save the world.
