What a great art lesson!

Some of my year 6 students have fundamental gaps in their art knowledge. This lesson was a great lesson to go back and revise whether they understand tones and shades.

Focus: creating tones and shades with paint and 5 point value system

Inspiration: 4th grade cactus lesson

Next lesson: using tints and shades to demonstrate highlights and shadows

Mother day craft in progress!

It's funny to see what they think they can give their mums. This is a different take on a mother's day coupon booklet.

I am going to say it. It's taboo but...

normally don't like teaching poetry.

It feels like you are undoing all the punctuation and sentence structure that we do all year.

But this year, teaching it to an older grade. I have to say.... I love it!

They are surprising me. We have only done two weeks of lessons, but are already starting to show real growth.

I might be a convert yet.

Woof!

As I am starting to pull down my displays for the year- I realised this is the first year, I have put up displays as a reference for learning rather than as a reflection of learning.

I have been off class for a long time and things have changed in that time. I think it's good to admit when things change and acknowledge that you have done things better than you used to. It is the only way you can learn and grow.

My science display isn't quite as finished, but hey I'm human and can't get everything right.

Bring on the Christmas displays!!!!!!!!

Used this resource an ignition to spark off discussion about 2D shapes

My kids really got to demonstrate their working mathematics, communication and reasoning skills.

What would you have chosen?

I'll trialing this display for our "word wall".
I love the posters (thanks ) but I feel like I have too many words and they aren't themed.

How do other people do or in their room, so their displays are functional and a working word wall?

Another Kmart teacher hack!

So here is the $12 essential oil carrier and it perfectly doubles up as a fancy stamp holder.

It holds up to 20 x 28mm stamps. It is a perfect excuse to spend more money at every teacher's favourite shop, Kmart.

Today's conversation...

Kid: Miss, are you wearing a pajama shirt?

Friend of kid: Oi, you can't say that to her.

Kid: What? It's all shiny and stuff like pajamas... I just thought she might be wearing a pajama shirt...

Me: No... it's not a pajama shirt (looking at it and realising it kind of does look like a pajama shirt)
