Happy Easter from AblePath Living Supports 🐰💛

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet on here lately — things have been busy behind the scenes supporting families and helping make sure everyone is getting the best possible outcomes from their plans.

Wishing all of our participants and families a safe, happy, and relaxing Easter 🐣

We’ll be back to regular posting after the Easter holidays, but please know I’m still available during this time — messages and calls are always welcome, I’m just taking a step back from Facebook activity.

I can’t wait to come back with some exciting new developments 👀

Something I hear from families all the time is:

“I wish someone had explained this earlier.”

Here are 3 things many families wish they knew when they first received their NDIS plan:

1️⃣ Your plan can often be more flexible than you think.
Funding categories can sometimes be used in different ways depending on how the support helps meet your goals.

2️⃣ Reports and evidence matter.
Sometimes supports aren’t funded simply because the right information wasn’t included in the request.

3️⃣ You don’t have to figure it out alone.
There are people who can help navigate the system and make things much easier to understand.

NDIS can feel complicated at first, but once you understand how it works it becomes much easier to use your plan in ways that support your everyday life.

What’s something you wish you knew when you first got your NDIS plan?

NDIS won’t fund that… now what?

This is something many families hear at some point.

But a “no” from NDIS doesn’t always mean the end of the road.

Sometimes it means:

• the request needs more supporting evidence
• the report needs to explain why it is reasonable and necessary
• the item needs to be requested under the correct support category
• the request needs to go through Assistive Technology or Home Modifications pathways
• or the decision can be reviewed or appealed

Many supports are declined simply because the right documentation wasn’t included the first time.

There are also other options outside of NDIS that can sometimes help.

Things like local grants, charitable organisations, community funding programs, and equipment loan services can sometimes support families when something sits outside of NDIS guidelines.

Sometimes it just takes looking at the situation from a different angle.

NDIS can be complicated — but there are usually options to explore before giving up on a support that someone genuinely needs.

A lot of families don’t realise this about the NDIS 👇

Your plan isn’t just about therapy appointments.

Funding can often be used for things that support real everyday life, like:

• Support workers – help with daily tasks, community activities, appointments, and building independence.

• Assistive technology – equipment that makes life easier and safer such as shower chairs, communication devices, mobility aids or sensory supports.

• Community access – support to get out into the community, attend activities, social events, or appointments.

• Capacity building – therapies and supports that help build skills and independence over time.

• Home modifications – changes to the home to improve safety and accessibility such as ramps, rails or bathroom modifications.

Sometimes families miss out on supports simply because they don’t realise what their plan can actually be used for.

This is where support coordination can make a huge difference — helping families understand their plan and connect with the right supports.

NDIS can feel overwhelming, but you’re not meant to navigate it alone.

💙 Things families of people with disability wish others understood

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the diagnosis.

It’s the misunderstanding from the world around them.

Families often wish people knew that:

💬 Not every disability is visible
💬 Some days are harder than others
💬 Progress can look different for everyone
💬 Small wins are actually huge victories
💬 Patience and kindness mean everything

Behind every participant is usually a family doing their absolute best to navigate therapies, appointments, supports, and everyday life.

Disability doesn’t define a person — it’s just one part of their story.

A little understanding from the world around them can make a really big difference.

💜 Rare Neurological Conditions Deserve Understanding 💜

Working in disability support means meeting some truly incredible people.

Many of the participants and families I work alongside live with rare neurological conditions — conditions that most people have never even heard of.

Things like:

💜 Rett Syndrome
🧠 Rare genetic conditions
🧬 Complex neurological disorders
🌱 Degenerative conditions

These conditions can affect communication, movement, independence, and daily life in ways that many people don't always see or understand.

But what I see every day is something else entirely.

✨ Strength
✨ Determination
✨ Families who advocate fiercely
✨ Participants achieving things many thought impossible

NDIS support isn’t just about funding.

It’s about understanding the person, the family, and the journey they are on.

Every plan.
Every goal.
Every support.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to walk alongside families navigating these journeys.

NDIS Language… translated into normal human words 👇

One of the biggest things I hear from families is:

"I have funding in my plan… but I don’t really understand what it means."

NDIS uses a lot of terms like Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Assistive Technology, but no one always explains what those actually look like in real life.

So here’s a simple breakdown.

Understanding your plan properly can make a huge difference in how your funding is used and whether your supports actually help you reach your goals.

NDIS can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to stay that way.

If you ever need help understanding your plan or what your funding can be used for, feel free to reach out.

🌧️ Flood Day Update – AblePath Living Supports

Due to some localised flooding around the region today, the AblePath team are all safely working/ schooling from home.

Messages, calls and emails are still being monitored, however responses may be a little slower than usual while we navigate the wet weather, kid home from school and happy tails flicking us while we watch deadlist catch.

Please allow up to 24 hours for replies, and I’ll get back to everyone as soon as possible.

In the meantime — stay safe, stay dry, and avoid driving through flood water (your car isn’t secretly a boat… promise 😅).

Thanks for your patience everyone 💜

How do you know your NDIS funding is being used properly? 🤔

This is something I talk to my clients about all the time…

Because the truth is — a lot of people don’t actually know.

NDIS funding isn’t just about having supports in place…
it’s about making sure those supports are actually working for YOU.

Here are a few things to check:

✔️ Do you understand what your funding is for?
✔️ Are you getting regular updates or feedback?
✔️ Do your supports align with your goals?
✔️ Is your funding lasting the full plan period?
✔️ Do you feel confident asking questions?

If you’re unsure about any of these… that’s usually a sign something needs adjusting.

And that’s okay 👇
You’re allowed to ask questions.
You’re allowed to change things.
You’re allowed to have supports that actually make your life easier.

I always say this to my clients —
it’s your plan, your funding, your choice.

If something doesn’t feel right… it’s worth looking into 💭

✨ Today looked like this…

Coordinating therapies, chasing reports, advocating for funding — and making sure families feel supported every step of the way.

It’s not always simple behind the scenes, but it’s always worth it 💙

This is what I genuinely enjoy doing… and I’m so grateful I get the opportunity to do this as my job.

Helping families navigate NDIS, reduce stress, and actually feel supported — that’s what it’s all about 🤍

Midweek reset 💭

Support coordination (and support work) can be a lot behind the scenes…
advocating, organising, problem-solving, holding space for families — it all adds up.

So Wednesdays, I try to slow it down a little.

Even if it’s just:
🌿 Getting outside
📴 Stepping away from emails
🧠 Taking a breather
🚶‍♀️ Going for a walk
🎶 Putting some music on
🛁 A shower or quiet moment to yourself
📺 Switching off and watching something easy

Because you can’t pour from an empty cup — and showing up properly for others starts with looking after yourself too 🤍

I’d love for you to join me in taking a moment today… even if it’s just 5 minutes.

What do you do to reset? 👇
