💭 Strength Myths We’re Letting Go Of (Midlife Edition)
If you’re over 40 and trying to feel stronger, healthier, and more like yourself again — these ones matter.
❌ “I need to eat less and avoid lifting heavy so I don’t bulk up”
→ In reality, under-eating and avoiding strength training often leads to muscle loss, lower energy, and a body that feels harder to manage — not leaner or stronger.
❌ “Carbs are bad for me and will make me gain weight”
→ Cutting carbs often means low energy, poorer recovery, and workouts that feel harder than they should. Carbs help fuel training and support strength, especially in midlife.
❌ “Supplements are only for athletes or gym junkies”
→ Midlife bodies often need more support, not less. Supplements are simply tools to help with recovery, energy, and staying consistent. Next time you visit your GP, have a chat to see if you would benefit from taking creatine or magnesium!
❌ “If I rest, I’ll lose progress”
→ In perimenopause and menopause, recovery matters more than ever. Rest days help your body adapt, rebuild, and actually get stronger.
At Self Care Fitness, we’re not chasing smaller bodies —
we’re building stronger, more supported ones for your best functional everyday life!
