I am deeply thankful for the opportunity I have to live and work on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people.
I understand and deeply appreciate the privilege it is I have to live this life I live.
The same privilege has never been granted to our First Nation peoples who have lived on this land for over 60,000 years.
As we approach referendum day, I still feel very much at odds with the idea that as a white Australian woman it's up to me to decide whether our First Nations people can have their voices heard, finally. I accept however, the power of democracy in enabling me to vote for change, equality, kindness and unity. For better health outcomes, education and life expectancy for all First Nations people.
I acknowledge the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the grace with which it has been offered.
I say yes to constitutional recognition for First Nations people. As it should always have been.
I wholeheartedly say yes to the creation of a First Nations Voice.
I am thankful that in this diverse and glorious land, we can have the opportunities that democracy brings. I hope with all my heart we can all use our democratic power with knowledge, respect and the grace with which this has all been offered.
I say YES so we can all live on this this land in unity, together.
