Patient presents with a cough.
On the chest x-ray a rounded density is seen in the right lower lobe which required further evaluation with cross sectional CT imaging. A CT scan of the chest was performed and confirmed that this opacity corresponds to a 10 mm ground glass lesion in the right lower lobe. Additionally, an incidental small lesion was identified in the right upper lobe not clearly visible on the initial radiograph.

This case illustrates the value of CT imaging to further characterise pulmonary findings on chest x-ray. CT not only helps better define lesions but also allows assessment for additional abnormalities such as other pulmonary nodules, mediastinal lymphadenopathy or bony involvement. Although infection/inflammatory process are differentials, a neoplastic process must be excluded.
