As human beings we need cortisol to survive as stress is a normal factor of life. That said, often our bodies can't tell the difference between "run for your life" stress and "I'm running late for an appointment" stress. As a result our cortisol levels can get quickly out of whack leading to what's known as a HPA Axis Imbalance whereby we begin to have an abnormal response to stress.

The Wellness Studio Mt Hawthorn is open and here to help support you and your families’ health and wellbeing. Your wellness is, as always, our highest priority.

With the current COVID-19 outbreak we are taking all precautions to ensure the practice is a safe space - one of which being that Dr Wayne recently undertook the Government recommended Infection Control Training - COVID-19.

Through the training recommendations we are ensuring that the practice is adhering to the strictest hygiene standards for your safety, including:

✔️ Cleaning our hands and disinfecting our tables before and after each adjustment or massage.

✔️ Frequently cleaning and disinfecting shared areas, including the reception area and bathrooms.

✔️ Sanitising each patients hands as they enter the studio.

✔️ Proving hand sanitiser in the adjusting rooms.

We have also provided special appointments at the end or beginning of our regular opening hours for those clients who may be at risk and desiring to minimise exposure. Please contact us if you prefer such a time.

Here’s what YOU can you do to protect The Wellness Studio patient’s that are most at risk. . . We ask you to please call US and reschedule if you:

With all that's going on at the moment, we wanted to check in and provide some simple wellness tips that you can follow to help to keep your immune system functioning optimally 👊

Our key piece of advice is to focus on what you can control, in particular what you put into your mind and what you put into your body. Think positive and really nourish from the inside out 🥝

As far as adjustments go, we're still business as usual and we really encourage you to keep up with your chiropractic care. Regular adjustments increase our parasympathetic nerve system, which controls immunity 🙌

Coronavirus (COVID-19) - What is known so far…

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spread from person to person by close contact, via droplets from an infected person’s body fluid such as saliva or mucus. Person-to-person infections are also believed to occur from dispersed particles in the air or on surfaces that have come in contact with infected individuals through coughing and or sneezing. The spread of the infection is similar to other respiratory illnesses including the flu and although the level of immunity is currently unclear, persons with a compromised immune system or aged individuals have a significantly increased susceptibility and are at increased risk of infection with a flu-like virus that can be fatal.

To self-protect from the virus, hygiene practices are imperative such as washing your hands thoroughly and covering your face with an effective mask if coughing and sneezing. Whilst physically protecting yourself from transmission is crucial, consumption of vitamin C, Lactoferrin and Zinc will actively strengthen immunity and natural defences against the virus.

Currently there are two dozen studies registered on clinicaltrials.gov, these studies aim to test multiple different remedies including Vitamin C that re investigating a possible positive response (link is below).

Vitamin C and it’s role in Immunity

Vitamin C supports various cellular functions by reducing inflammation in turn boosting the immune system [1][2][3]
Vitamin C has crucial influence in the production of the anti-viral immune response during the early phase of viral infection through the production of type I interferons, which up-regulate Natural killer (NK) cell activity [1][6][7]
Vitamin C supports the production of interferons, necessary for cells to initiate protective defences [
Vitamin C supports the production of large quantities of nitrogen oxide by phagocytes, necessary to capture and neutralize pathogens [2][7]
Vitamin C enhances the production of T lymphocytes, necessary for cell mediated immune responses [1][6][7]
Vitamin C increases the production of B lymphocytes, crucial for the early phase response to infective pathogens.[7][10]
Vitamin C deficiency may result in a weakened immune system with a higher risk of infection[1]
Findings have indicated that ascorbic acid can be used as an inactivating agent for both RNA and DNA viruses, lessening viral infectivity[7]
Zinc and it’s role in Immunity
Zinc deficiency has been shown associated with impaired cellular mediators of the innate immune system such as phagocytosis and natural killer cell activity [1]
B cells and T cells depend on zinc for proliferation, zinc deficiency will reduce antibody-mediated immune defense[5]
Increased intracellular zinc impairs replication of a number of RNA viruses by interfering with viral polyprotein processing [12]
Lactoferrin and it’s role in Immunity (Anti-Viral activity)
Lactoferrin displays antiviral activity against both DNA and RNA viruses, and similarly to vitamin C the antiviral effects lie in the early phase of infection [6][13]
Lactoferrin binds to the hosts surface cell receptors inhibiting viral pathogens from entering the cell. By competitive inhibition lactoferrin can reduce endocytosis of micro-organism entry into host cells, where they can evade the immune system [14]
Lactoferrin contributes to the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type 1 interferons.[13][14]
In the presence of viruses, Lactoferrin can increase phagocytic activity of macrophages. These cell types play an important role during the early phases of viral infection, before the specific immune system is upregulated and takes over the antiviral response [8][13]
lactoferrin encourages gut-associated immune functions by production of interleukin-18, type I interferons and increased natural killer cell activity.[8][11]
Lactoferrin promotes maturation of T lymphocytes… and under different host conditions promotion of either Th1 (pro-inflammatory) or Th2 (anti-inflammatory) cytokine profiles occur[11]

Australians gain on average 0.8-1.5Kg over the festive season 😧 here’s a few tips to try curb that.
1. Try to reduce the nasty whites - refined flours, sugars and starchy foods.
2. Always add salad or veggies to a meal - this fills you with the good stuff and keeps appetite at bay.
3. Minimise the picky nibbles and replace crackers with carrot, celery or fresh capsicum.
4. Keep drinking water to flush weight inducing toxins such as alcohol! 💦
5. Limit alcohol intake to two standard glasses a day.
6. Do an intensive workout before that big night to keep your metabolism burning bright. 🔥

12 Days of Christmas Wellness tips. Let’s face it Christmas time can most often bring the worst and best out of us.
Here’s tip #1 to maintain health and balance the festive season.
#1 STRESS REDUCTION. Planning, some organisation can help to reduce stress and take some pressure off. Delegate when possible, write a to do list,( Dr Wayne’s favourite)prioritise and make your time valuable. Decide what is ACTUALLY necessary and what is really important.
Take a mini timeout and BREATHE 7secs in 11secs out. Reset that parasympathetic nerve system if you feel the stress levels rising.
No one wants extra unnecessary stress at Christmas.
