Many patients who present with persistent muscle hypertonicity, recurring spinal restriction, or frequent cramping are surprised to learn that even mild dehydration can influence how their muscles and joints behave.
Hydration is not simply about avoiding thirst. It is fundamental to tissue physiology.
Supporting Better Hydration — Naturally
For most patients, small adjustments can make a meaningful difference.
Rather than relying on sugary sports drinks, we encourage simple, whole-food strategies:
Begin the day with mineralized water.
A squeeze of fresh lemon and a small pinch of quality sea salt in morning water can support fluid retention and provide trace minerals.
Increase potassium-rich foods.
Avocado, leafy greens, citrus, melon, cucumber, and sweet potato all contribute to cellular hydration.
Consider magnesium sufficiency.
Magnesium plays a key role in muscle relaxation and nervous system regulation. Dietary sources include pumpkin seeds, almonds, spinach, and legumes. Supplemental forms such as magnesium citrate or glycinate are often well tolerated when clinically appropriate.
Eat your fluids.
Hydrating foods (cucumber, berries, celery, watermelon) provide structured water along with fiber and micronutrients, supporting slower, steadier absorption.
Space intake throughout the day.
Large volumes at once are less effective than consistent intake. Encourage steady hydration, particularly around exercise or treatment days.
Hydration is not just about volume — it’s about absorption and retention.
While hydration alone is rarely the sole solution, it is often a foundational piece that amplifies other interventions.
Sometimes the conversation shifts from “Why am I always tight?” to “How well are my tissues actually hydrated?”
That subtle shift can make a meaningful difference.
