Every person will face personal life problems at some point, because life is unpredictable. That's why we run the Dying Matters Cafe monthly. The cafe is a back up to life, relationship and loss. As humans we are constantly under the stress of change, nothing ever stays the same here. But we are here, in this together, and everything will be ok in the end. 🍃🍂🍁

🐢THE LEGACY OF OUR ANCESTORS, IS US – and for now we get to live.

🥚🥚🥚🥚Another Easter season is upon us, and despite it’s meaning or it’s chocolate sweetness, it’s at these holidays and anniversaries that the familiar ache of missing someone much loved, is magnified.

The energy of our dead still surround us in all we do but we miss them even harder right now.
Time rolls on, year follows year, but the space they took up in life remains empty.
💔
ALL OF OUR DEAD HAVE TAKEN THEIR PLACE AMONG THE ANCESTORS
The breathtaking truth is - that we exist only because we’ve been carried here by our ancestors.

So as we indulge in eggs, dinners and picnics with family, may we all remember those that have gone before, those whose blood runs in our veins, because those are the people who paved the way for our lives to be lived in a world where our survival is now much easier than their own 🌏

We remember you 🩵
We light a candle for you this easter, and share a traditional family recipe,
IN THANKS ETERNAL 🌹

SO MANY STORIES NEED TO BE TOLD 🌿🌺

Dying Matters Café April is on again Monday 7th APRIL at 10.30am – La Baracca Café, Lismore.

🌿This month we have Janelle McInerney leading us through the art of capturing stories of your life that need to be told, or remembered.

🌿Janelle offers this as a writing service to the public, but on Monday 7th she will be showing you how you can do this too, in your own style and your own voice.

Come along to the DMC (Dying Matters Café) for some inspiration to get yourself started, ask questions and open conversation about some of your own dearest and most profound life experiences. Will be fun! 🫶

THIS IS REBECCA WILLIAMS STORY 📸(1. Becca is the happy clown photo)
🤡
‼️There is a trigger warning to what follows. We discuss s****de. ((Note: this word deliberately obscured to avoid FB algorithms))

🍂
Rebecca lived through the death of her only child. Billy was born in December 1994 and died by gunshot wound to the head in November 2017. He was 22 years old. 📸(2. Billy’s Obituary photo).

Becca posted a video of how she felt, how she worked to make life meaningful again, and the circumstances and some of the factors that were involved in Billy’s decision to s****de. People older than Billy may have thought none of those things were insurmountable, or that a driving disqualification would not impact the rest of his life. But to a young person, it was a huge set back. .

Often we don’t understand or agree with a person’s decision to take their life. We determine that the reasons were too small in the whole breadth and width of a life. But we cannot be them.
📸(3. Photo of Billy and his mum Rebecca by the waterfall – looking like siblings!).

After Billy died, Becca managed to pull things together, like she knew she should. She created and managed 2 successful businesses and has found happiness with her second partner Mark, for 7 years now. On 16th September just gone (2024), they finally got married.
📸(4. Photo of Mark and Becca smiling together)
Her husband Mark has 3 children (all sons) from his previous marriage, so Becca officially became a step-mum and had children in her life again.
……..

Becca was born on May day, in 1976. She died this January, the 18th (2025). Just over 2 months ago. By s****de. She hung herself. She was only 48 years old.
📸(5. Rebecca’s Obituary photo)
….

Rebecca’s life was ‘successful’. She was happily married. She has 5 siblings, cousins, friends etc.
Not one of them saw this coming. Not even Mark.
💔
💔
💔
💔
Becca and Billy’s story is hugely tragic. Their lives and deaths raise HUGE questions for our selves and the people of our communities.
Originally, I created this post for parents grieving the loss of a child, but there is a question here for everyone -

How are you REALLY?
Are you coping?

We all need to reach out sometimes, people want to understand, they want to help.

The things you’ve lost, the things you’ll never have…… despite absolutely EVERY thing, happiness is still possible.

For immediate help, always ring LIFELINE – 13 11 14 (Australia)

Be gentle out there. None of us know all of what's going on x

THERE ARE LOSSES THAT CHANGE THE WORLD – and a grief that tears everything down.
💔💔💔
We recently gathered together with Grieving Parents at Brandon Hall to share our experience and long road of grief with others who really do understand the particular devastation that overwhelmingly companions child loss.
🍃
That sharp and painful intake of breath when you first hear your child is dead, never really leaves you. You are being remade and the old you that people knew and love, is not coming back.
🌱
No matter how it was that your child died, through accident, illness or murder, a common theme to most parents is that now when they look into the mirror, it’s hard to know who they see. They see grief, they see the void, they see glimmers of their child, but they don’t see themselves anymore.
🍃
The loss of a child is absolutely confounding.
Sometimes a parent just needs their child’s validation, a look, a smile, a hug…. but they can no longer find it.
🌱
It becomes hard to look far ahead now, or to plan for the future, because the future no longer feels safe. Life does not offer certainties, other than death. Life is fragile and unpredictable.
🍃
To each parent that came to our gathering, I say: Thank you for waking up today. Stay.
……
We hold a Grieving parents group annually. Please get in touch if you would like to be part of our next one. You may have a lost a child 45 years ago, you have lost a child.
With care ❣️

Are you a parent, or do you know a parent whose child has died?

1st March is dedicated to all parents and caregivers who are grieving the loss of a child. It makes no difference how or what age your child was, or when they died, this is a solemn call out for you to come together with other parents this Saturday afternoon at Brandon Hall in Coraki. (The hall is part of The Sanctuary, on Queen Elizabeth Drive).

As the year moves into Autumn, how are you with this grief? Share or listen with people who get you.

Please share this invite, it's for EVERYONE, not just those parents who have been cared for by Sacred Earth Funerals.

The only requirement is to RSVP. Our gathering will be held in a strong and safe container.

With care, Mim 🙏

This Monday, we'll be discussing 🌟EMOTIONAL WILLS🌟 at the Dying Matters Cafe - 10.30am till noon at La Baracca, 44 Keen St, Lismore.

Emotional Wills are truly matters of the heart 🩵- what meaningful messages, ideas, lessons, defining moments and hopes and joys do we leave behind for those we love?

And how do we do that?

We all have some timeless advice to leave behind... what would be yours?
See you Monday! - Mimi 🤗

As Spring feels like it's making a great return in Northern NSW, and the light is returning, we reflect on the many, many families that Sacred Earth has been privileged to care for.
🌿
Each beloved person has been unique and irreplaceable, each family has been tender and sorrowing, and every single funeral we have created has been for just that ONE being, the one leaving our world.
🌿
This is a moment of thanks to the families that entrusted their loved person into our care, in the time after their last breath. It's the greatest honor that you give, and we promise to continue to respond with grace, love and compassion to your needs, both spoken and felt.
🌿
All things grow with love, Sacred Earth Funerals

DYING MATTERS CAFÉ – 5 August 2024 - 10.30am

Dear people,
🌟
Our first Monday of the month is coming round again, and we absolutely look forward to seeing you on the 5th August at 10.30am, La Baracca Café in Lismore!

This will be a special meeting because I have invited a wonderful guest to chat with us about the things we leave behind: Matter Matters.

Hendrika Johnson is an R.N., an author of an amazing 25 books, and she’s also a linguist. I will give you an intro on Monday as to why she’s such a special person to me, but I’ve invited her to speak to us specifically about creating legacy by considering the inter-relationship between objects and people. You’ll also get to see what marvelous things she has created..

Legacy is always about ways that we wish to be remembered, or ways in which we can leave something meaningful on Earth, after our lives here have ended.

So join us Monday, for a hot beverages and warm hearts on these cold mornings.
With care,
Mim x 💚
