We have been lucky enough to recieve a grant, to aid in developing technology so that we can better survey for koalas, from the NSW Government's Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) program.

We have have been working with Western Syd Uni (UWS) and NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN), with assistance from DPI and DPE to develope a device which can be left in the field and can detect and record koala calls.

Eastern Pygmy-possums (Cercartetus nanus) are in much lower numbers since the Gosper's Mountain Bushfire. But they are still holding on! This female was found utilising an artificial nestbox and had two young in the pouch. The last pic is a male we found earlier in the year. The majority of the Banksias (their primary food source) burnt in the bushfire. The ones that resprouted have been producing a small number of flowers. While ones that have germinated will need a few years before they mature.

Wonderful to see a flock of around 40 Gang-gang Cockatoos hanging out in the peppermint trees along Farmers Ck in Lithgow this afternoon. Splendid autumn weather.

Look who managed to survive the fires. Long way to any unburnt country

Starting to see occupation of the nest boxes made by the Lithgow Women's Shed and Lithgow Environment Group. Unfortunately it wasn't the Eastern Pygmy Possum we were hoping for, but a still cute Agile Antechinus.
