As NAIDOC Week 2025 comes to a close, we at MRAEL look back on the incredible celebrations with gratitude and pride. Our team had the honour of attending the Logan City Council's official NAIDOC event on Tuesday, held at the iconic Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct. The theme "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy" resonated deeply throughout the day, inspiring reflection on past achievements, present celebrations, and future aspirations.
Shane Williams, our First Nations Engagement Advisor, was the driving force behind three incredible panel discussions that truly brought the NAIDOC theme to life. We're now excited to share these insightful conversations with you through our YouTube channel.
Panel 1: Yuggera Elder, Faye Carr with Family
The first panel featured Faye Carr, a respected Yuggera Elder and 2017 Female Elder of the Year, known for her tireless advocacy and leadership. Alongside her daughter Samantha Carr and grandson Jemarah Carr Smith, they shared their inspiring journey to establish a cultural Aboriginal centre in Logan, highlighting the strength of intergenerational leadership. As a Deadly Choices Ambassador, Willie's dedication to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices for themselves and their families is truly inspiring. His work embodies the spirit of resilience and pride, and his message continues to uplift and motivate the younger generation in wellbeing, mental health, and success.
