Had a lovely birthday today despite having been on a roller coaster 🎢 with my moods & hormones!

So today didn’t study.
I went shopping & had lunch with my hubby at
It was delish

I’m learning that I don’t need to wait for a birthday to treat myself….if you are also experiencing

Did you see that recent Gwenyth Paltrow video? About how she eats and looks after herself? When I did, I reflected on my own food wellness/ diet culture journey.

Recently I stopped “disordered eating” and “orthorexic behaviour”.
🤔⁉️
Have you ever:
✂️ cut out food groups because you BELIEVED them to be unhealthy?
⏰ restricted your eating times, how long you wait to eat?
💧 obsessed over pure or organic food?
😇 believed your food choices to be better or more healthful?
📈 felt stressed at social events because the food wasn’t part of your regime?

I spent over 17 years of my life preaching to myself and others about what food was “good” and why I cut out whole food groups and was OBSESSED with purity.
🌽🍪
All in the name of health. And to heal autoimmune disease symptoms. And, if I’m honest, to give me a sense of control while I struggled with mental health issues.

I’m not intolerant of any food groups but I stopped eating gluten and diary for years because I heard through my community that that would help me.

On reflection, did it help? For a moment. But I think it went on too long.
🥝🥥
I’m happy to say, now that I’m studying full time and my brain 🧠 is ravenous, that eating from the 5 food groups is suiting me down to the ground.
⏰ no timer on my meal times
🥣 no low calorie or fasting
🥗 no restrictions
….
The funny thing is, I feel energised, I’m not hangry 🤬 and the best part, there’s no anxiety or second guessing.

According to my extensive 5 minute goggle research; did you know that our brains could be over 500 million years old & haven't upgraded in 50,000 or so years.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let's have a think about what kind of environment our brain evolved in - a dangerous, life threatening time, with no coffee or cocktails.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And here we are navigating our modern life with the same hardware. We desperately need an upgrade. Not everything is a life threatening emergency, even when our brain has us thinking it is.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes, that's right, you are often not in control of what you think.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And therefore not in control about why you worry or panic.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you are nervous about re-entering society again after lockdown, you aren't alone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are worried about living with Covid, you are not alone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are worried about vaccinations rates, you are not alone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When your brain's alarm system gets triggered, listen to your breath. You can even put your hands over your ears to really hear it. Or on your belly to breathe deeper.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Exhale via the mouth, like you're blowing out candles.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Something calming happens when you listen to your breath.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Especially when you are feeling unsure about what is right for you & your brain's safety centres are in overdrive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
