How I Know Iโ€™m On The Right Path

The work feels hard, but never hollow.

Even when Iโ€™m tired, I still feel lit up when a practitioner tells me, โ€œThis finally makes senseโ€ โ€” or when a client moves without fear for the first time in years. Often I get more excited than the client, because I know that's a solid shift towards healing that even the client can't fully comprehend from a nervous system point of view.

Thatโ€™s when I know Iโ€™m doing it for the right reason: the internal joy is real.

Because in the end, I want to build a global community of practitioners who no longer feel out of their depth when it comes to chronic back pain โ€” and a world where fewer people feel trapped in it.

Start With Why โ€” Even In Struggles

Most people see working with stubborn back pain clients as a clinical nightmare.

But for me, it reminded me why I started: because no one should have to feel dismissed, broken, or out of options. My great mentor, Feldenkrais instructor, Rae Martin RIP - had two favourite sayings which I recall frequently when working.

Saying one - "there is always a way"
Saying two - "enjoy your choices "

If youโ€™re facing something tough, ask yourself โ€” what am I doing this for?

My answer is always: to give both clients and clinicians the tools to feel confident, clear, and truly capable. As a profession, I know we can do better. There's some big holes in our training which need to be plugged. There is a way to do it better and your choices play a role in that.

If you're feeling overwhelmed as a health professional working with back pain clients, ask yourself: whatโ€™s the belief thatโ€™s doing all the work?

There was a time when I believed that if I just got the diagnosis right and prescribed the perfect exercise, people would heal.

Then I sat with client after client who had โ€œperfect scansโ€ but still lived in pain. I saw how deeply their stories, stress, and beliefs shaped their symptoms โ€” and how under-equipped I was to help them fully.

Thatโ€™s when I realised my purpose is to transform the way we treat back pain โ€” from mechanical fixes to whole-person healing. Many courses and experiences later, I can say, I feel equipped.

Today, I wake up each day to educate, inspire, and mentor practitioners who want to break the mold and actually help people get their lives back.
