The specialists at Australian Osteoarthritis Clinic are highly experienced at using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for a variety of conditions. But did you know there are different methods of formulating PRP?

PRP can be either white cell rich or white cell poor depending on the condition being treated (joint or tendon) and whether it is acute or chronic at the time of treatment. At AOAC, we also utilise a specialist filter that is small enough in size to filter out both white and red cells remaining in the PRP preparation.

As COVID-19 is spreading widely within our community, the team at AOAC have updated our policies and COVID plan to meet the changing needs of our patients and our team.

Possible clinic closures – as a small and very specialised team, we ask for understanding should the clinic be impacted by COVID and we need to reschedule any appointments. As patient safety is our first priority, should we not have enough staff who are able to run the clinic lists, we will reschedule appointments and work with you to find the most suitable time.

For patients who travel to see us – it is important that any flights you book or accommodation includes a COVID-19 cancellation policy. Most places still have flexible booking options available, should you request it. We suggest you ask the provider for more security by including in writing any costs associated with changes to your bookings.

State-by-state COVID rules – if travelling from interstate, it is important you check your home state guidelines about returning and any restrictions you need to abide by. It is also important that you are familiar with Victoria’s COVID-19 guidelines when you come to see us.

As rapid antigen tests are in very short supply, we are not asking patients to do these prior to appointments. We do ask that any patient that has been exposed to COVID-19 (and are not required to isolate) contact our team to see if telehealth or priority rescheduling would be a better option for your appointment in the short term. Should you need to come into the clinic, we may shift your appointment time away from any vulnerable patient appointments.

As always, we remain vigilant regarding COVID-19. We monitor the team for symptoms and comply with all government guidelines.

With the government cancelling elective surgery lists, we want you to know, in most cases, we can help your pain in the short term while you wait for your surgery. This could be a medication review, bracing, shoe inserts or some interventional injections. We are still able to treat and look after you.

Should you have any questions, please contact the team on 03 92708000 or email info@mscc.com.au

A recent study by Kuszewski et al. (2020) has found that fish oil supplementation may benefit in reducing osteoarthritis-specific pain. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) can help to reduce inflammation which may indicate its potential use in arthritis. The specialists at Australian Osteoarthritis Clinic can assess the suitability, form, and dose appropriate for your individual condition after a formal assessment.
