Don’t forget to look after yourself too, mamas.

This will look different for everyone, maybe a hot bath, or a cup of tea and a book, or perhaps a trip to the gym. ☕️🛁🏋🏻‍♀️

Whatever it is, try to schedule it into your day. 🤍

Wondering how you can set yourself up for breastfeeding success?

Prepare while you’re pregnant!

How can you prepare while pregnant you ask? Consider a few suggestions of .and.nurture.doula and mine.

• Get antenatal breastfeeding education. After all, knowledge is power.
• Connect with an IBCLC while you’re pregnant, and then if you need further assistance once baby comes! (And/or speak with one at the hospital)
• Ask an IBCLC or midwife about expressing colostrum before baby arrives
• Check out and familiarise yourself with the Australian Breastfeeding Association website, live chat, hotline and drop in sessions near you
• Plan for immediate skin to skin and establish breastfeeding asap, look into the breast crawl, and put it in your birth plan
• Prepare for the nourishment you will need as you recover and build/maintain your supply
• Gather your village support system - think about meal trains, sibling help, a postpartum doula, and more! - dm me if you’d like to organise a postpartum planning session 🤍

This does not guarantee success, but it will help you to feel prepared, reduce uncertainty, and can increase your chance of success. You don’t have to do it alone!

Let us know what you did to prepare in the comments! 👇🏼

April is Caesarean Awareness Month.

Why the need for awareness?
• The WHO considers the ideal Caesarean rate to be 10-15% (Australia’s is 37% and on the rise)
• If people don’t know their options, they can’t access or advocate for them
• Preventable caesareans may be responsible for many surgical complications each year
• The ‘family friendliness’ of caesareans can vary from facility to facility
• And often future risks to the mum and future pregnancy’s aren’t mentioned or are glossed over
- ICAN

So for CAM 2023 I will be diving further into various topics surrounding caesareans and VBAC’s, such as:
~ C-section options, why it may be needed, planning and recovery tips
~ How to prepare for a VBAC
~ Risks of c-section, VBAC and RCS
~ And sharing the story of my emergency caesarean birth and recovery 🤍

Your baby just arrived and you’ve already got a full calendar! 🗓

It’s filled with napping, bonding, breastfeeding, skin to skin and more resting! 🌱

Allowing our bodies to rest after childbirth is crucial for recovery, and our long term health and well-being.

Try to stay in bed majority of the first 5 days. Focus on skin to skin, bonding, breastfeeding and resting.

Remain on or in the bed for at least 3/4 of the time for next 5 days, still include a lot of rest, skin to skin, bonding and breastfeeding but you could also venture out to the yard for sunlight, or play a game with older children.

And stay in the bed at least half of the time for the last 5 days, ensuring to still rest, breastfeed, do skin to skin and bond with baby, but you can start to take brief strolls around the block, or do crafts with other children. ☀️

This may sound hard to accomplish! 2 whole weeks of resting? It can be easy to get caught up in welcoming visitors to meet the baby, chasing after other children, or making meals and doing housework.

This is why it’s crucial to plan for this period and schedule in your rest and recovery.

Perhaps that may involve:
• Prepping and freezing meals when pregnant
• Organising a food train for once baby arrives
• Planning for partner to keep the house clean
• Having family/ friends to help partner with older children
• Hiring a postpartum doula
• Other preparations
• Or ideally a combination!

DM me to discuss doula support or organise a postpartum planning session. 🤍

And those are just some of the perks!

One of the best parts when you book with me is personalised prenatal and postpartum sessions to what you feel you need assistance with, and individualised support during your labour and birth.

Not everyone needs or desires the same guidance, education and support, but everyone deserves to feel nurtured during this time! There is no cookie cutter for antenatal support, so I shape it to your needs.

To book a free initial consult, use to link in my bio. Otherwise dm me for my services guide. 🤍

Perfecting my recipes ✨

As I prepare to nourish mamas, I have been making, trying to perfect my recipes, as well as finding and trialing new ones!

Chilli con carne is a favourite of my husbands, so I made it up for him and added some extra ingredients:
• flax seeds
• carrot
• celery
• beans (I usually skip these as they are not my favourite!)
• served with fresh corn off the cob
• I wanted to serve with brown rice but he was not a fan of this idea 😂
• plus my usual ingredients

It was delicious, and I think I’ve almost perfected it to go into my recipe folder.

What are your favourite ingredients to incorporate into a chilli con carne? ✨

When to stop breastfeeding? ✨

Whenever you want to! It’s entirely up to you. The ABA says our bodies even seem to be geared toward a weaning age of 2-7 years!

That doesn’t mean everyone has to or should go for that long! It’s up to you when you want to wean your babies and children off.

Some factors that may play into your decision:
• if it’s affecting your mental health and well-being
• returning to work
• baby/child doesn’t want to anymore, or they’re self weaning
• it doesn’t fit into your lifestyle anymore
• low supply or pain (if you want to continue, see about talking to an ibclc first!)

These are just a few potential factors, you may assess your own situation and be happy to continue through them. But the key idea, do what is best for you and your child, and not for judging strangers. ✨💕
