Embarking on a Surgical Revolution 🚀 | Spine Surgery Transformed

Last December marked a milestone in my career and a leap forward in spine surgery techniques. I had the privilege of performing one of Australia’s first AI-assisted spinal surgeries, blending the precision of robotics with the intelligence of AI. 🤖💡

Together with the dedicated team at Warringal Private Hospital, we ventured into uncharted territory, leveraging this advanced technology to enhance the accuracy and outcomes of spine surgery.
Using my surgical plan, we used AI powered software to create custom spinal rods tailored to the patient’s unique anatomy, ensuring optimal fit and function with minimal adjustments needed during surgery.

The future is bright, and this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for what’s next in spine surgery innovations. 💪🔍

What is the main advantage of robotic surgery? 🤖🦾

Many of my patients are curious about robotic surgery so I did a deep dive in my latest blog post! I hope you find it insightful and feel free to share it with anyone interested in this topic.

Melbourne based spinal surgeon Keat Ooi has written an article discussing the pros and cons of robotic spinal surgery. Read on to see what he really thinks of this new technology.

🌟Unlocking the Secrets of ACDF Surgery! 🤔🔎

🔬Curious about ACDF surgery? Let's dive into this innovative procedure that's changing lives! 🏥

💡ACDF stands for Anterior Cervical Discectomy & Fusion. It's a revolutionary surgery that tackles neck pain and herniated discs, bringing relief and restoring mobility! 🚀💥

In ACDF surgery, the damaged disc is removed through an incision in the front of the neck and the surrounding vertebrae are fused.

Keat likes to use an integrated cage for the fusion or if he can, he will opt for an artificial disc replacement.

🦴🔧 This stabilises the cervical spine, relieving pressure and alleviating pain.

⏱️ The goal is always to get you back to normal function as quickly as possible.

🌐 So, if you're seeking a solution for neck pain or herniated discs, join the ACDF revolution and embrace a pain-free future! 🙌💫

Radiculopathy is a condition that occurs when a nerve root in the spine is compressed or irritated, leading to pain, weakness, and/or numbness in the area of the body that the nerve serves. It can be experienced in the arms, legs, feet or hands. Even across patches of skin on the body.

Sciatica, a common condition where pain and weakness can be felt down the leg is actually a type of radiculopathy.
This can happen due to herniated discs, bone spurs, or other conditions that put pressure on the nerves.

If you're experiencing symptoms like shooting pain, tingling, or muscle weakness, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Keat Ooi is a spine surgeon with a paticular interest in radiculopathy and its various causes.

According the the Australian Bureau of Statistics 40% of people are working from home post pandemic. That number may go down, but by large it looks like working from home is here to stay!
Is your home office set up correctly? You might not have thought about this, but your working from home routine may be different from what you were used to at work. This change in routine might even have health implications. Here are some simple tips to help you look after your back while working from home.

➡️ Take a professional mindset and set up your home office properly.
➡️ Try to maintain good posture while sitting:
☑️ Keep your neck tall and your shoulders relaxed
☑️ Keep your screen at eye level
➡️ Sitting in the same place for too long can make your body stiff. Move about and stretch!
➡️ Sit stand desks are popular, but use them correctly. Improper standing technique can be as bad as sitting for long periods. (see posture tips.)

Also you might not have access to the same resources that you do at work… talk to your employer and see if they can help you.
