💕THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE NEED TO DO AFTER EXPERIENCING TRAUMA, IS TO RECONNECT WITH OUR BODY💕

Trauma can create a profound disconnection from our bodies, leaving us feeling alienated from ourselves. This disconnection is a natural response, a protective mechanism that allows us to cope with overwhelming experiences. However, this estrangement can lead to a range of physical and emotional issues, making it essential to work toward reconnecting with our bodies. When trauma occurs, our minds often retreat to a safe space, while our bodies may become numb or overly sensitive. We might experience chronic tension, pain, or even dissociation. This disconnection can manifest in various ways: feeling like an observer of our own lives, struggling to recognize physical sensations, or experiencing anxiety and depression.

To reclaim our sense of self, it’s crucial to engage in practices that promote body awareness and grounding. Here are some strategies:

1. Mindful Movement - Activities like yoga, tai chi, or even gentle stretching can help us reconnect with our physical selves. These practices encourage awareness of our bodies and can promote relaxation and healing.

2. Breathwork - Focusing on our breath is a powerful way to anchor ourselves in the present moment. Techniques such as deep belly breathing can help calm the nervous system and foster a sense of safety.

3. Somatic Therapies - Approaches like somatic experiencing or sensorimotor psychotherapy focus on bodily sensations and movements to process trauma. Working with a trained therapist can provide invaluable support in this journey.

4. Nature Connection - Spending time in nature can help ground us and foster a sense of belonging. Simple activities like walking barefoot on grass or observing natural surroundings can reconnect us to our physical existence.

Reconnecting with our bodies after trauma is not just about healing; it’s about reclaiming our wholeness. Each step taken toward reconnecting is a step toward healing, resilience, and ultimately, a richer, more embodied life.

💕ONE THING NO ONE EVER TAUGHT US, WAS HOW TO PARENT UNHEALED PARTS OF OURSELVES💕

One of the overlooked challenges in parenting is the task of nurturing the unhealed parts of ourselves. We often think of parenting as guiding and supporting our children, but what about the inner child within us that still carries old wounds and unmet needs? Many of us grew up without learning how to address or heal these parts of ourselves, leaving us unprepared for the demands of parenting.

When we become parents, our unresolved issues can resurface, influencing how we interact with our children. We might find ourselves reacting to situations from a place of past hurt rather than current understanding. The skills needed to parent these unhealed aspects—such as self-compassion, emotional regulation, and reflective practice—are not always taught or modeled, leaving us to navigate these challenges on our own.

Recognising and addressing these unhealed parts is crucial for our growth as individuals and parents. It involves acknowledging our own vulnerabilities and seeking the support we need, whether through therapy, self-help resources, or personal reflection. By working through our own unresolved issues, we can offer our children a more balanced and empathetic parenting experience, ultimately fostering a healthier family dynamic.

💕ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM HIGH FUNCTIONING ANXIETY? READ THIS 💕

As a counsellor who has definitely struggled with high-functioning anxiety on and off, I understand firsthand the complexities of managing this condition while supporting others. High-functioning anxiety can be particularly challenging because it often involves hiding your struggles behind a facade of normalcy and competence. But it’s important to acknowledge and address these feelings to lead a fulfilling life and to help others effectively.

For clients dealing with high-functioning anxiety, I recommend a few strategies that can make a significant difference:

1. Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques Incorporating mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga, can help calm the mind and body. These techniques allow you to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, reducing the intensity of anxiety.

2. Structured Routine. Creating and sticking to a structured daily routine can provide a sense of stability and predictability. It helps in managing time effectively and reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed by tasks.

3. Journaling. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be a powerful way to process and manage anxiety. It helps in externalizing worries and gaining perspective on what’s causing stress.

4. Setting Realistic Goals. Break down tasks into manageable steps and set achievable goals. This can prevent feeling paralyzed by overwhelming responsibilities and helps in maintaining a sense of accomplishment.

5. Seeking Professional Help. Regular sessions with a therapist can offer valuable support. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is particularly effective in addressing the patterns of high-functioning anxiety and developing coping strategies.

6. Self-Compassion. Practice self-compassion by recognizing that it’s okay to not be perfect. Acknowledge your efforts and be kind to yourself, rather than self-critical.

By incorporating these strategies, clients can better manage their high-functioning anxiety and improve their overall quality of life.

If you struggling with high functioning anxiety, DM to book in your therapy session.

💕HOW A DYSREGULATED NERVOUS SYSTEM IMPACTS OUR COMMUNICATION💕

Ever wondered why sometimes communication feels like a rollercoaster? Let’s talk about the hidden factor: our nervous system! 🧠✨ When our nervous system gets dysregulated – whether from stress, trauma, or overwhelm – it can seriously impact how we connect and communicate with others.

When we’re in fight-or-flight mode, our brain focuses on survival, not socializing. This can lead to misunderstandings, difficulty expressing ourselves, or even shutting down in conversations by becoming reactive, hyper-aggressive, loud, unable to listen👂and often interrupting.

Do you finding yourself doing this when you are dysregulated?

💕WE NEED TO FEEL TO HEAL💕

One of the things that I sometimes see in my private practice is clients wanting an instant feel good solution in relation to what they are going through.

YES, as a therapist we can help work through coping strategies to help you feel better, but in order to truly heal we need to feel first and this is why 👇🏼.

Feeling is a fundamental part of the healing process because it allows us to acknowledge, process, and release emotions associated with our experiences. Suppressing or avoiding feelings can hinder healing by preventing us from addressing underlying issues and finding closure. Embracing our emotions helps us understand ourselves better and move forward with greater resilience and clarity.

Feeling like you struggle to sit with your feelings and finally feel ready to start processing them?

💕OFFICIALLY A MASTER OF COUNSELLING💕

Graduating from a Master of Counselling feels like home. Today officially marks not just the end of an academic journey but my ongoing mission to make a difference in people’s lives. With this degree, there’s a sense of responsibility and hope that every conversation, every intervention, could potentially save a life. It’s about offering a safe space for individuals to explore their struggles, realise that they’re not alone, and to discover the strength to confront their challenges.

Initially I began my Post Graduate Diploma Course to help with my role . During the pandemic there were so many distressed students that were struggling and couldn’t see a way out of all the challenges experienced during COVID in Melbourne. Little did I know at the time that a redundancy would come my way which allowed me to further study and complete the Masters of Counselling. The universe lead me to start my own private practice and allowed me to create a career that has helped me make an impact but work around the people that I love.

To me this degree isnt just about providing advice; it’s about fostering empathy, building trust, and empowering individuals to navigate their own journeys towards healing and growth.

Today I also want to celebrate the beautiful family and friends that supported me on this journey. Couldn’t have done it without you. And also to my amazing manger at the time who was so supportive of my study. You know who you are.

💕THE PRICE WE PAY FOR IGNORING OUR MENTAL HEALTH - BALANCING AMBITION AND WELLBEING💕

I saw this quote and it totally resonated with me yesterday in relation to sacrificing and ignoring your mental health and pour all your energy into your career. I understand this because this use to be me and I see this quite a bit in my practice.

It’s easy to get swept up in that whirlwind of busyness, life and career forgetting about taking care of our mental health along the way. You know that saying, “If you don’t sacrifice for what you want - what you want becomes the sacrifice”? It hits home, doesn’t it?

It’s all too common I see women pouring everything they’ve got into their ambitions, leaving little room for plain old self-care. But what they might not realize is that neglecting their mental well-being can actually hold them back from reaching those very goals they’re chasing.

When you brush aside your mental health, it’s like playing with fire. Burnout, anxiety, and even depression can creep in, making it harder to stay productive and fulfilled. It’s like shooting yourself in the foot when you’re trying to run a marathon.

Success isn’t just about climbing the career ladder; it’s also about feeling genuinely happy and fulfilled along the way. Taking care of your mental health isn’t a luxury reserved for the lucky few—it’s a must-have for anyone aiming for long-term success.

So today I wanted you to make a pact to prioritize yourself when you can okay? Whether it’s practicing self-care, reaching out for support when we need it, or setting boundaries to protect our sanity, let’s do whatever it takes to keep our mental well-being intact.

Sacrificing your mental health isn’t a badge of honor—it’s a roadblock on the path to your dreams. Let’s chase those goals while still holding onto the things that truly matter—like our happiness and peace of mind.

Is this something you struggle with?

💕REASONS WHY YOUR ANXIETY IS MAKING YOU TIRED💕

Feeling excessively tired is often our bodies response to chronic stress and anxiety. Here are some of the factors that make you tired as a result of your anxiety.

1. Post-Anxiety Crash
The main reason why we experience the post anxiety crash is because our adrenaline runs out. Anxiety keeps our body on high alert and your body remains in the fight and flight mode which floods your body with energy to respond to the threat. When the adrenaline runs out this can leave you feeling drained.

2. Mental Tiredness
Anxiety is linked to ongoing stressful thoughts and brain overactivity increasing your emotional load due to the extra thoughts you’re experiencing. Making it taxing on your cognitive capacity leading to a drain on your ability to think and react 😴.

3. Post Muscle tension
Anxiety has a huge impact on muscle tension and often leads to a similar drained feeling 💪🏼.

4. Sleep Issues
Many people with chronic stress and anxiety often develop sleep issues such as difficulty falling asleep and reduced quality of sleep 💤 which in turn makes you feel tired.

5. Coping
Becoming tiredness is sometimes your bodies mechanism to protect you from becoming more stressed and overwhelmed. Tiredness motivates you to take a break and rest rather than exposing you to more stress and anxiety.
