"... more people are defeated by blisters than mountains"

It's often the smallest little things, the things we push aside or sweep under the rug because they feel insignificant that cause the healing journey to stagnate.

It's these things that are often the root cause of dis-ease that naturopathy as a healing modality seeks to uproot and rectify. You can take all the pills and potions you want, but without being well hydrated, it'll all be for naught.

Think about it; how many times have you heard your mother's voice in your head reminding you to drink more water?
How many times have you rolled your eyes to yourself over such internal recollections?
How often do you feel like your brain is too fuzzy to think clearly, or that your muscles ache, or your bowel motions are hard to pass, yet you don't even consider that you could be dehydrated?

Adequate hydration is the kind of health advice that feels boring, unsexy and inconvenient, but it is a core pillar to maintaining optimal function on micro- and macroscopic level.

Water is the stuff that allows neuronal signals to transmit between brain and body by facilitating the flow of electrolytes in and out of cells. We need to be hydrated so these signals create action potential the innervates our muscles and our mind.

Water is an essential component of the digestive process, literally hydrating the food we eat as to help liquify our stomach contents. The enzymes that break down our meals excreted by cells in the upper gastrointestinal tract (bile, pancreatic enzymes etc) are comprised of >95% water, while the water we consume also forms the soup in which hydrolysis (a type of chemical reaction) breaks down the bonds between atoms that turn the food we eat into the molecules we absorb.

Tend to the small things.
Water your internal garden friends.

Hey hey, my final block at the Torrens University Student Naturopathic Clinic kicks off this week. If you've ever considered coming in to get some guidance for your health, now's the absolute best time (and your last chance ❣️ not to alarm you or anything)
I'll be in Wednesday and Saturday mornings 9am-2pm over the next 12 weeks, then I'll graduate (so very exciting πŸ’šβœ¨)

If you're interested, I implore you to book in ASAP because spots are VERY limited - I'm already booked out for this week.

Give the clinic reception team a call on 9415 3327 or send them an email on thepracticemelbourne@torrens.edu.au to book in with me, Holly Kate (Please specify Holly Kate as there's THREE Holly B's studying this degree, what's the chances of that??)

Much love 🌸🩷🌷

A little life update πŸ’™
Given the nature of posting content to generate interest in my studies and book in patients to see in clinic, I found that I got drawn back into sinking far too much time into endlessly scrolling. While I am so grateful that my books have been totally full all trimester (thank you to everyone who has put their trust into my naturopathic practice πŸ™πŸŒΏπŸ’š), I also found that the allure of little dopamine squirts tickling my brain by scrolling through short, quippy videos was starting to drain my energy and spirit.
I decided to delete Instagram off my phone a few days ago, and I already feel as though some of the brain fog and irrational emotional turbulence has been alleviated. Upon reflection, I noticed that I felt obligated to make content, which felt performative and unnatural, while also castigating myself because my content wasn't as good as so-and-so's or not performing as well as such-and-such's.
I also felt like I was in competition with my peers, which couldn't be further from the truth; the wonderful people I study with are all in this field for the same reason, to truly heal the public. And unfortunately, there's more than enough dis-ease to go around for all of us to be booked up to our ears with patients and still leave some behind, that's just the sad truth of modernity.
Mostly, I want to be able to ake he reigns back in hand, to be more deliberate with my time, and to practice not filling every single moment with maximal stimulation.

Deleting my socials created space to pause, the most potent and important healer of all.

(Note: I'm making this post through the Meta Business Suite, a nice little work around)

I'm not done with making content or sharing the wisdom of naturopathy, not at all. I have a few videos that I will edit and post soon-ish. This is just about reclaiming my focus, my attention, my time and my spirit so that I can move through my days in a balanced, centred way.

Just a little something I'm working on at the moment.
