Friends and families of our residents were invited to enjoy delicious cupcakes, sandwiches, and some fun tea party themed activities today, as Olivet hosted a Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council.

A worthy cause and one of many opportunities provided for the Olivet community to have a tea-riffic time 🧁

On Sunday the 18th of May, Olivet Staff, Family and Volunteers took part in the 2025 Memory Walk and Jog to raise funds and awareness for the 421,000 Australians living with dementia. Our team walked, jogged and ran for our residents especially those in our memory support unit, Juniper. Many of us also participated for special loved ones past and present, who have been affected by this condition. Olivet thanks all those who donated their time to share in this event.

Menu Meeting πŸ—£πŸ½πŸ₯—πŸ

Every three months Tatjana, our Catering Manager, consults with interested residents who would like to give feedback on the residential menu, one of the many ways in which Olivet works in partnership with our residents.

At the March meeting Tatjana facilitated a lively discussion, helped by her strong rapport with the residents. Talking points ranged from specific dishes to presentation, and there was a notable team effort to include everyone who wanted to contribute. Suggestions and feedback were then recorded to shape future menus.

Near the end there was a round of applause and words of appreciation for Tatjana's efforts as Catering Manager, which I think we can all agree is well deserved πŸ‘

Skylarkers at Olivet πŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸŽΆ

Giving their all in the name of entertainment, Olivet was lucky enough to have local singing group The Skylarkers visit and perform a varied and expressive repertoire last week.

'Georgie Girl', 'Close To You', 'Razzle Dazzle' and many more - a great mix of popular favourites and musical numbers performed solo and ensemble with costume changes and distinct musical theatre flair. The response from our residents was enthusiastic, perhaps best summed up by the audience member who exclaimed 'how good is this!'.

At Olivet Care, we value the power of connection and the comfort it brings to those living in residential care. A visit from a loved one can lift spirits, ease feelings of loneliness, and bring a sense of familiarity and joy to a resident’s day. However, understanding visitation rights, etiquette, and how to make the most of your time together can enhance the experience for both residents and visitors.

In this guide, we’ll explore the key aspects of aged care visitation, including the emotional well-being benefits, health etiquette, thoughtful gift ideas, and how to create meaningful moments during your visits.

If you have any questions or would like support before your visit, our team is always here to help.

Wildlife Encounter at Olivet 🐍🦘🦎

The Wellbeing team has set the bar high for school holiday activities, bringing the Olivet community together with a wonderful BBQ and a visit from Aussie Wildlife Displays.

Aussie Wildlife Displays gave a great interactive presentation to Olivet residents, friends, and family and then facilitated some up close wildlife encounters. The wildlife handlers were patient and knowledgeable, engaging everyone in this fun and special experience. Smiles, excitement, brave handling of reptiles, a great day rounded out with a BBQ lunch and ice-cream 🍦

Salon Experience at Olivet πŸ’…πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈβ˜•

An opportunity to relax and be pampered is offered to Olivet residents a few times a week when Lisa (of Lisa Lester hairdressing) comes to the Olivet Hair and Beauty Salon to cut, coif, and have a chat.

I had the opportunity to talk with one of our wonderful regular volunteers, Anne. We talked about how the salon is a great place for casual socialising, how Lisa is very patient and does a wonderful job, and how Anne notices people brighten and relax.

Anne offers hand massages and conversation to the residents, reminds them of their appointments, and generally helps Lisa out.

I spoke with a few residents, and they agreed that it was a lovely thing to do and that it had a nice social atmosphere. Joan was kind enough to allow me to share an in-progress picture, and I think we can all agree that Joyce's finished hairstyle is lovely.

Navigating caregiving decisions for an ageing loved one can be emotionally challenging, especially when differing opinions arise within the family. While everyone shares the goal of providing the best care possible, conflicts can emerge as family members struggle to balance practical considerations with deeply personal emotions.

Understanding the dynamics behind family conflicts over caregiving is essential to resolving disagreements and fostering a collaborative approach. By focusing on communication, shared goals, and practical solutions, families can create a care plan that honours their loved one’s needs and promotes harmony.

🌍 Harmony Day 2025 β˜€οΈβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈ

Friday, March 21st is Harmony Day, a special occasion that celebrates our rich cultural diversity and brings us together from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

To show support, staff were encouraged to wear traditional outfits or the colour orange. A special highlight of the day was when Christine, one of our wonderful staff members, shared an incredible example of Sega β€” a vibrant Mauritian music genre known for its powerful storytelling, social commentary, and captivating rhythm. Residents and visiting primary school children were treated to this lively performance, complete with traditional dance, making it a memorable and joyful celebration.
