The time has come for me to finally make the move & say goodbye. I've been sitting with this for the past few months, trying to reflect on what I want (and have capacity) to do, and the decision has yet to change, so I have to share.

I came into this work hoping to fill a hole in the support system we have available, and unfortunately, there are too many hurdles for me to continue jumping over. Working under capitalism means for me to earn enough I would need to raise my prices beyond levels I feel comfortable with. Working in this field means I need to give more & more of my capacity to others, losing who I am, & what I love to do & be. Inherently, who I am now, & the way the world is currently, means this work isn't sustainable.

So I've had to make the decision to step away, and focus on myself. It's been incredibly difficult to come to this decision, & I'm sure I'll have my regrets, but taking care of myself needs to be my priority.

Have you heard of the worth it equation? Adding to the spoon theory, the worth it equation includes our own motivation & desire for enjoyment. Sometimes, this motivation is able to overpower our potential recovery time or pain, the joy of being there making it worth it for us.

How do you assess your capacity to participate or join in? For some of us, this is a daily check-in, for others, just during a flare-up, but I feel we could all use a few more tools to examine how we navigate the world. Will this help you?

I've been pretty absent lately, and exploring what I want & need from my life & business. Last year, I had to make the decision to step away from supporting clients one-on-one, and since then, I've been consistently reflecting & imagining how I want my life to go.
What I wanted from this business was to find a way to support people where they are, give the education they need, show them skills they can take away and grow with, and be a person to turn to for guidance & support. That's not changing, but how I do this will.

I'm still exploring all the options for me, but already have a few beautiful projects in the works. Working with schools, community groups & councils, hopefully growing our wider community supports is where I see this going, but I'm open for suggestions! If there's education you feel is needed, workshops for connection or learning, or spaces to be created, reach out!

We all need to alter our goals depending on our circumstances, and it can feel disappointing sometimes, or like we're failing. But it's not failing to chose an option that is better for us, even if that means something completely different from the original plan.

Life is ever-changing, just like me & my plans! While I was set to continue my days at Art Kind for the rest of this year, it's just not working, so why not change?
Play with K & Friday Feels are done, but me deciding to cancel them is a positive. Rather than feel the need to push on, I can reorient, and figure out alternatives.
I'm still figuring out what's next, but I am taking the time to explore what I want from this business, and life in general. Just like I am, I hope you all are able to spend time reflecting on your lives, and figure out ways to support yourselves the best you can.

NAIDOC is amongst us, and if you haven't been seeing all the gorgeous education & stories the Indigenous community are sharing, please get amongst it. I am a white educator, living & practicing on stolen lands, and try my hardest to affirm the intersectional identities I support. This NAIDOC I continue to endeavour to lift up the voices of the Indigenous People, and I encourage you to do the same. I don't know about anyone else, but 2023 has got me spinning! My brain is constantly swimming with seemingly endless tasks & commitments, and knowing where to cut back has been an ongoing struggle.
One of my constant reminders when working out my priorities is considering the "shoulds" I hold - what "should" I be doing?
When we're struggling in any area, removing as many "should's" as possible and focusing on the things we want & need makes life much less stressful. Consider where your "shoulds" are, and whether they're making you feel more stressed or guilty about the things you want to do.

Trans Day of Visibility is today - a day to celebrate & support our transgender & gender diverse community. I'll be heading into the city with my fellow trans friends to rally against discrimination & violence towards our community. Make sure to reach out to your support networks during these times, and remind reach other of the beauty of gender diversity.

I've been finding it hard to look at social media, the news, and even my emails lately. The world is fighting, people are struggling, and there are daily reminders to how full of hate some people can be.
I have this quote on a sticky note on my computer screen, and this past week it's felt truer than ever. Watching the TERF & naz* gatherings around Australia, and now Aotearoa (New Zealand) has been hard, but seeing the people fighting back, standing proud & loud has filled my heart. There will always be people standing against violence & discrimination, don't lose hope. We will always be here. We will not back down.
