This morning I had the opportunity to join the Today Show to talk about a topic that’s sparking a lot of conversation: sleepover safety.

As a counsellor and a parent, I see the tension families face: wanting to protect their kids while also helping them belong. We’re not trying to create fear, we’re creating space for better questions, honest conversations, and thoughtful decisions.

Thank you to the Today Show team for opening up this important discussion.
Here’s the full interview

Me talking about sleep overs.

With concerns around safety and unsupervised access to the internet, some parents don’t feel comfortable with sleepovers.

Some shut teens down, others invite them in.

💡 Swap “What’s wrong with you?” for “What’s been on your mind lately?”
💡 Swap “Why won’t you talk to me?” for “I’m here when you’re ready.”

The goal isn’t to force conversation—it’s to make space for it. Start small and build from there.

What’s the best conversation starter you’ve used? Drop it below! 👇

Sometimes, conversations flow better when you’re not sitting face-to-face. Movement helps untangle thoughts. Ask your teen for an evening walk. Walking gets them talking.

Have a Teacher meet-and-greet coming up? Here’s How to talk about your child (Even If you have concerns)
It’s easy to focus on what’s been hard. Instead, try this positive framing:

🔹 Instead of: “Last year the teacher said she never finishes her work.”
✅ Say: “She’s incredibly creative and does best with hands-on learning.”

🔹 Instead of: “He hates group projects.”
✅ Say: “He’s an independent thinker who thrives with clear roles in group work.”

Highlight their strengths while acknowledging their needs. The right words can open the right doors. 🚪✨

🏌️‍♂️ What if a simple golf habit could help you switch off from work?

Ever noticed how pro golfers take off their glove after a shot? It’s not just routine—it’s a mental cue that the shot is over, and they can reset before the next play.

What’s your “take off the glove” moment that helps you reset?
