Last Friday Explorers United travelled from Flinders Street to Lilydale by train to meet our guide for a Yarra Valley tasting adventure.

Stop 1 was Yering Station Winery where the group discussed how each wine is made. We learnt that grapes grown in different areas on a hill can determine how the wine tastes. The most expensive bottle of Pinot Nior in the world is worth over $100k. Riesling is great paired with seafood, Chardonnay pairs well with white meat, Pinot Nior goes well with cheese and enjoy a steak with a glass of Shiraz.

Stag Lane Distillery was stop 2 where the group enjoyed sampling 4 different Gin varieties. We learnt that Gin is made from juniper berries. The best tonic water to pair with is Fever Tree, Gin can vast in taste greatly depending on the botanicals used. Our group loved trying the Gin Reaper which was quite spicy.

We the travelled to our 3rd and final destination at the Yarra Valley Chocolatier. The group sampled over 10 different chocolates during a tasting class. We learnt all about how chocolate is sourced and made. We then enjoyed lunch together sharing what we learnt and made sure we picked up some chocolate for our train ride back.

Thank you to for proving the group with a memorable sensory experience.
