We’re Back!

We know it’s been quiet for a little while, but behind the scenes, we’ve been working hard to bring PMDD awareness, advocacy, and support to the forefront of Australia!

PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) is one of the most misunderstood reproductive & mental health conditions and this is leaving too many women and individuals assigned female at birth without answers, support, or access to proper care - nationwide!

Premenstrual Disorders Australia (PMDA) exists to see this change!

Over the coming months, we’ll be:

✔️ Amplifying voices within the PMDD community
✔️ Sharing evidence-based resources to raise awareness
✔️ Advocating for better healthcare pathways and recognition for Australian's living with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

We’re just getting started!

Premenstrual Disorders Australia is an officially registered Australian Not-for-Profit Charitable Organisation with the Australian Charities & NFP Register and all donations above $2.00 are tax deductible!

and are often misunderstood as the same, but they are vastly different in the manner in which they impact the individual.

This article from ABC explores how PMDD – a severe sensitivity to hormonal changes – can devastate relationships and mental health in ways PMS does not.

Experts in the article emphasize that while PMS includes physical and emotional symptoms, PMDD manifests as debilitating depression, rage, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts – symptoms that lift once menstruation begins.

By distinguishing PMDD from PMS, this piece underscores the urgent need for education, empathy, and better support systems for those affected.

Premenstrual Disorders Australia, the first not-for-profit Australian organisation to advocate, raise awareness, and support those navigating the challenges of PMDD in Australia, has been established to see that the systems of support Australian women and afab individuals living with PMDD have long been in need of, are built and able to be accessed by all - including their partners, carers and families.

Hope ~ A.C. Kinghorn

"PMDD has destroyed countless relationships and caused untold heartache. Given that one of the primary symptoms of PMDD is 'Interpersonal Conflict,' it is little wonder that over half of those with PMDD report losing a partner because of it. Yet, there is little information or support for caregivers and partners in how to deal with such a complex condition.
With 15 years of experience living alongside PMDD and five years of providing direct peer support to hundreds of partners with PMDD, Aaron empathetically reviews what PMDD is, how it can impact a relationship and how someone can support their partner better.

What is PMDD? What does it look like? What is it like to live alongside PMDD? Can I build a PMDD proof relationship? How do I handle the rage, anger and meltdowns? What happens if my partner is not engaged with the diagnosis?

Where there is despair there can be Hope."

CLOSING SOON!

We love supporting those working hard to further our understanding of PMDD in Australia and invite all of our followers to please take part in this research being conducted by the amazing Ashlee Stirling!

AUSTRALIAN RESIDENTS ONLY

"Do you want to be part of the change? It is well recognised that people experiencing symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder experience difficulties in receiving an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment and can access an average of six doctors and wait an average of 20 years to receive the correct diagnosis and treatment.

I am a student at Griffith University who is conducting research investigate how various factors impact the diagnosis and treatment of people suffering from symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (GU Ref: 2024/352).

By determining the relationship between different sociodemographic factors and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, it will allow for targeted public health interventions to improve the awareness of and knowledge surrounding the condition.

This has the possibility to influence the diagnosis and treatment experience of those diagnosed with this premenstrual dysphoric disorder."

We are on the look out for a social media/marketing/Canva Wizard!

We have recently had to say goodbye to our wonderful Marketing Manager, Jacqui - who has gone on to have her baby (congrats Jacqui!) BUT! We are absolutely lost without her!

If you have that special kind of wizardry that would be able to whip this same post in an hour and would consider volunteering your talents - then we would love to hear from you (because this post took our Founder 6 ...🥴).

In 2023, Premenstrual Disorders Australia ran what is thought to be the first national survey of PMDD patients in Australia.

This is a snapshot of those findings.

We would like to thank all those who participated in the survey and believe that these findings will form the basis of a solid foundation to effectively advocate on behalf of Australian patients.

Please visit www.pmda.org.au to download and view the FULL REPORT.
