When eating feels scary, avoidance makes sense.�But it can also keep children stuck.
In ARFID, avoiding certain foods is not defiance — it is the nervous system trying to protect.
The challenge?�Each time a food is avoided, the brain learns: “That wasn’t safe.”�And slowly, the world of “safe foods” becomes smaller.
Support is not about forcing children to eat.
It is about calm, supportive structure — helping children face foods gradually, at a pace their nervous system can manage.
Because the goal is not compliance.
It is confidence.�It is flexibility.�It is helping a child discover that food is safer than their brain predicts.
If your family has adapted around eating to keep the peace, please know — this is incredibly common and comes from deep care.
