Support at Home will commence on 1st November. There are lots of changes and one significant change is that the dementia supplement will no longer exist under Support at Home.

Under Home Care Packages, the dementia supplement provides an additional 11.5% of funding to those with dementia, recognising that the needs to support someone at home with dementia are greater.

Under Support at Home, with funding available increased to $78 000, the increased needs are covered in your classification, not in a supplement.

For those currently recieving a Home Care Package, the current funding amount will continue under Support at Home. If you have the dementia supplement, the value of this will continue as well.

If you have a current Home Care Package, have dementia and are not recieving the dementia supplement, you have until the end of October to apply to access this additional funding.

Support at Home will commence on 1st November. It's a whole new system with a lot of significant differences to the Home Care Package program.

One of the differences about Support at Home is that everyone will be required to contribute to the cost of care and services, even full pensioners.

Services are being split into 3 categories and the contribution requirements for each category are different.

Clinical Services (Nursing, Physio, Podiatry, OT) - 100% funded by the government

Independence Services (Showering, Social Support, Equipment) - contributions from 5% to 50%

Daily Living Servicees (Cleaning, Gardening, Meals, Transport) - contribuitions from 17.5% to 80%

How much you will have to contribute will be deteremined by Services Australia via an income and assets assessment.

For current Home Care Package recipients, if you were approved prior to12th September 2024, you are ""Grandfathered"" and co-contributions will not apply unless you were paying an Income Tested Fee.

For current Home Care Package recipients who were approved after 12th September 2024, the new co-contributions will apply.

Support at Home will commence on 1st November. It's a whole new system with a lot of significant differences to the Home Care Package program.

If you were approved for a Home Care Package AFTER 12th September 2024, you are called a ""Transitional Participant"". Under Support at Home, all Transitional Participants and new participants will need to make co-contributions to their services based on the type of service AND a personal income assessment.

Under Support at Home, clinical services incur no co-contribution regardless of income however services classified as Independence (showering, social support, equipment) and Daily Living (cleaning, gardening, transport, meals) will incur a co-contribution.

As we transition to Support at Home you may be considerined whether you need to change your services based on co-contributions. Here are some questions to consider to help make the deicision.

- Do my current services keep me safe at home?

- Would my safety be compromised if I was to stop a particular service?

- Could a friend or family member help me with the services that will now include a co-contribution?

- Will I still need to pay for this service privately? If I pay 100% of the cost privately, would that be cheaper or more expensive than paying co-contributions?

It is a big change to have to contribute to the cost of services however ensuring you are safe at home and having the right service mix in place helps prevent hospital addmissions and the need to move to an Aged Care Home.

Talk to your Care Manager about your personal situation and make sure any service mix changes are carefully considered.

REMEMBER if you were approved before 12th September 2024 you are ""Grandfathered"" which means you do not pay co-contrubitions if you were not previously paying an Income Tested Fee
