Today is the start of Podiatry Week 2024 and the theme this year is ‘Podiatry, more than you think.’
Commonly, Podiatrists are viewed as people who cut toe nails and look after ‘old’ people but there is so much more to what we do.
Podiatry can be valuable at all stages of life, with podiatrists dealing with such things as:
👣 Skin and Nail conditions (ingrown toenails, plantar warts, callouses/corns, fungal/thickened nails, tinea, sweaty feet, ulcers, blisters etc);
👣 Musculoskeletal issues (bunions, achilles/heel pain, shin pain, forefoot pain (neuroma, bursitis), ankle sprains, stress fractures, plantar heel/arch pain, knee pain etc);
👣 Chronic health conditions (diabetes, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, varicose veins, poor circulation)
Podiatrists can also provide advice on:
👣 'normal' development, particularly for infants and toddlers;
👣 appropriate footwear choices;
👣 gait retraining and rehabilitation programs;
👣 self-care techniques;
👣 orthotic therapy, and much more.
All the practitioners at Northern Podiatry are passionate about the work we do and the importance of foot health… we’d love to have you in the clinic!!
