💻 Virtual consultations 🩺
I do miss seeing patients face to face, but it’s been a blessing to be able to conduct elective consultations safely during Lockdown. I’ve even had my first overseas consult - how’s that for preplanning?!?
And for those with eager eyes - yes I do have a presentation about jaw surgery that I use in consultations. I’ve used it for years to illustrate points and direct discussions, but it’s become vital with virtual consultations.
So thankful for screen sharing and technology - for consultation and for keeping in touch.

Vermont Private Hospital welcomes Orthopaedic surgeon Mr Viral Shah, who performed his first operating list with us last week.

Mr Shah has international sub-speciality training in joint replacement, trauma and shoulder surgery in Japan, the USA, as well as in Australia at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, and here in Melbourne at The Alfred.

Mr Shah joins our team of Orthopaedic surgeons at Vermont, who provide a no-gap, short stay joint surgery service.

Many patients are surprised to see the full theatre team when they arrive in the operating suite. In fact, there are usually no less than seven people looking after the one patient!

👩🏻‍💻 Telehealth 📞
It’s amazing how things change in eighteen months!
We were not utilising telehealth pre-Covid, but fast forward to this week, and we have completed full days of consulting virtually and relatively seamlessly. (Thanks in large part to my fabulous PA 😊)
And whilst it’s been nice to consult without a mask (though sadly impossible to have eye contact), I’m looking forward to restrictions lifting tomorrow, and welcoming elective patients back into our practice.

💉 Vaccine 💉
Despite Melbourne being in Lockdown 4.0, it’s been so encouraging to see our COVID immunisation hubs inundated; as people choose to protect themselves and one another.
But please don’t forget that it is also flu vaccine time! The recommendation is to wait 14 days between vaccines (as a precautionary measure) - so please plan ahead to get fully protected. We definitely don’t need an influenza outbreak this winter on top of COVID outbreaks.
So thankful for a little break during outpatient clinic this morning (reduced due to Lockdown) where I snuck in my flu vaccine.
I did not even feel this one!

Welcome Dr Nicholas Cheng, eye surgeon, to Vermont Private Hospital.

We'd like to extend a very warm welcome to eye surgeon, Dr Nicholas Cheng, pictured here after his first operating list at Vermont Private last week.

Dr Cheng is a cataract surgeon, with a Fellowship in Medical Retina, and a special interest in treating retinal conditions including Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease and retinal vascular conditions.

Nick consults in private practice in various locations across Melbourne, including Eastern Eye Specialists in Lilydale.
