I love learning, especially about people and how we can collectively heal. Seeking out exposure to new information from many teachers and facilitators means a lot goes on in my head, so here’s some of it.
No one is free until we are all free.
[ID: a carousel of four slides.
The first is a long exposure, blurred image of Charlie standing in a Yoga form. Wearing all black and on a green cotton yoga mat.
The following three slides have a black background with white writing saying the following:
“I’ve been thinking about resilience. What does it mean to be resilient in our current world? Why are so many Yoga facilitators unwilling to hold space for atrocities? Why is self care an isolating individual activity in western culture? Why is ‘love and light’ more important than feeling discomfort?
Through learning with various teachers, I’ve been shown that resilience is a a dynamic process, not a trait. It does not exist within a vacuum of an individual but is social and cultural.
The process of resilience relies on an individuals ability to access psychological, social, cultural and physical resources that sustain their well being, in addition to collectively negotiating for these resources to be provided in culturally meaningful ways.
Someone’s ability to ‘bounce back’ after a challenging life event is inextricably linked to their access to physical, psychological, spiritual and relational safety.
We can only do this with each other.
We can create safety, compassion and care on the ground level.
We can bolster each other’s resilience so that we can bear the grief and rage of injustice.
The capitalist system we live in greases its gears with blood and tells us that our inability to cope is an individual fault.
You can hold so much pain and love and anger and joy.
We can together.“
