Harry Zachariou - Unfinished Business

Harry Zachariou - Unfinished Business Diagnosed a quadriplegic in 2009 following a cycling accident, I disagreed! I set this page up to help promote my aim to Achieve My Recovery Goals.

Now used to help inspire others to help them achieve their GOALS! The idea behind this Page is to give me the opportunity to Share my experiences following my accident in July 2009. The result of this accident was that I was diagnosed a Quadrapligic and was told that I was not likely to walk again! I immediately defied this and set my self some goals, first and foremost was the goal to Walk Again. This Page was set up in time to start tracking from my 3rd Goal .... The story continues!

Hello everyone….Important Announcement….

On Sunday 13th October, my son Michael will be taking part in his first ever half marathon and he is ripped and ready to go.

The fundraising aspect of his run is seeking funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre where some massive work is going on in the the research space. The money you may donate could lead to a drug trial being established that will save a loved ones life. Some of us may have first hand experience in pinning all our hopes on a trial drug which could be the one thing that saves or extends our loved ones life!

On Wednesday 11 September I had the Privilege and Honour of speaking to the 2nd year Nursing students at RMIT University. We had some laughs, we shed some tears and hopefully they have gained an understanding of what goes through a patients mind when they are under their care (when they graduate).

For the first time since I have taken on public speaking my wife was also in the auditorium so I was extra nervous as she can be my biggest critic! She not only enjoyed the 2 hour session, she openly took questions from the students during and after the presentation which made me extremely proud!

Thank you to RMIT Uni and Jo-Anne Rihs (Deputy Program Manager) for extending the invitation for me to present our story. Just a couple of pictures were taken and a couple of shaky videos but for me the memory of the day will linger for ever.

Ten long years ago, Goal No.4 was achieved after a four year pre-season which was the hardest and longest pre-season I had ever undertaken. This day will always hold a special place in my heart a day which I could not have achieved if not for the help provided by the Footscray Hockey Club, Hockey Victoria and of course my beautiful family! 🏑❤️🤍💙🏑

Memories from my comeback game ... Goal No.4 Tick!!!

I have reached 500 followers! Thank you for your continued support. I could not have done it without each of you. 🙏🤗🎉

PRESENTATION NIGHT WRAP UP
What a sensational Presentation Night with over 200 people in attendance in the main function room at Club Italia. A night of nights to celebrate a magnificent season bouncing back in strong membership numbers in the first full season since 2019. Celebrating 5 Premiership flags, milestone awards up to 700 games, best & fairest and runners up award recipients and club champions.

One of the most special moments of any presentation night in history was a very special 500th retirement award for Harry Zac who has overcome enormous barriers after a terrible road accident to reach 500 appearances on the field for the Bulldogs. A moving speech and a standing ovation from the room a club highlight. Harry continues to contribute to the club over and beyond and pledged to do so for as long as he possibly can.

A moving tribute was to those we have lost, life members Alby Speed, Brendan Sheehan, Leon Gale and longstanding club member snd supporter Karen Veitch, a significant list of much loved and cherished people who we will always remember.

Congrtulations to our Men's Club Champion Kyle Gildea and Women's Club Champion Rosie Villagra and all the award recipients.

Dancing the evening away and mingling, after a short and sharp presentations and club highlight videos, a great evening was had by all. Huge thanks to Giulia Wisemena for organising the evening, Rick Wiseman nd Romy Kenworthy for putting together the video highlights, Simon Borger for being our MC and all the other helpers.

It was a massive weekend and lots of official thank you’s are needed. Firstly, Footscray Hockey Club thank you for the opportunities, not just for the 500th but the 499 before that and everything in between. Wiseman Sports for all the hard work he puts in to photographing games action week and week out while still playing high grade hockey. Phillip McAlinden for the brilliant little stand he made for me to rest my 500th and final match ball on. Alpha Lewis Signs for the reusable banner I had the privilege of running through for my 500th. Wayne D'Souza, Tung Le, and
Anthony Santoro for organising the 500th shirt, Karen Johnstone for supplying the shirt and Micheal Shaw for the screen-printing.

Did I mention that I retired? Well the person who was happiest about that retirement was my life partner and wife Annette, she gets to see the aftermath of everything I do so I think she is relieved now that I will not be going in to battle every second or third week. Annette Thank You from the bottom of my heart ❤️

And finally to everyone who made the effort to come down and watch the game, everyone who messaged me to wish me well and generally everyone ... Thank You!!! ❤️🤍💙
