The poses in the Dog family are more 'Yang' in nature. They are poses that weight bear on the arms and incorporate the myofascia of the upper back and shoulders. You could also include any arm balance in this family of poses.

In a Yin yoga class, you're not likely to do an arm balance, but you might throw in a down face dog or two.

Ideally yoga teachers have a community of other yogis to practice and share with - a sangha.

🧘‍♀️These are the people who will call your b$llsh*t
🧘‍♀️They'll be there to uplift you on the days you're feeling flat.
🧘‍♀️They'll remind you that the number of followers you have on social media does not equate with your worth as a teacher.
🧘‍♀️They'll discuss philosophy with you
🧘‍♀️They'll challenge you and ask you to nudge your self imposed limitations
🧘‍♀️They'll hold similar values to you

Growth as a yoga teacher comes from sharing and exchanging ideas and practice in community. Even if there's some in that community we don't agree with.
In fact it will be from these people that you'll most likely learn the most about yourself from.

As you examine your responses and innate prejudices and judgements. This takes courage and a willingness to for self examination.

The more upright the upper body is, the greater the tensional pull on the tissues of hip flexors and quadriceps..

WHY??

Because the myofascia of the front body, re**us abdominus, blends into the myofascia of the hip flexors and quads.

When we pull on one tissue group, we pull on others because our myofascia is connected all the way through the body.

The Caterpillar family is all about the back line of myofascia - from the top of the spine to the bottom of the feet and everything in between.

When you fold forward in any of these poses, you stimulate this myofascial tissue. Depending on how you tilt your pelvis it will have more of an effect on the hamstrings/back of the leg or the spine.
