For 2025 our Aerobar Three received a major overhaul. At the heart of this was a change of method for the connection of the extensions, from a permanent bonded connection, to a me mechanical wedge clamp.

One reason for this change was to facilitate micro-adjustment and achievement of the perfect fit.

Between three extension lengths and 30 mm of adjustment (with trimming), the AB03C covers almost any extension length requirement.

What’s the low hanging fruit that’s there for the picking for most athletes?

- Helmet choice is absolutely critical in maximising speed.

- Bottles will impact aero performance, and usually for the worse.

- Calf sleeves can be a meaningful gain, drag neutral, or a significant aero penalty.

- Your TT position is the first step in recognising maximum aero gains,

The biggest challenge with track aero testing has always been the adaptation period for the athlete to learn how to ride, and trust the track.

The flip side of this is that once an athlete does that successfully, it’s not uncommon for them to exaggerate their head position, lower than we see on the road. This gives an unrealistic value for the CdA and can be misleading for evaluating race performance.

As good as the “clean” velodrome environment can be, in some ways it’s a step removed from the road environment, where an athlete performs.

So what’s the alternative?

The environmental conditions of an indoor velodrome offer a unique situation, with minimal variables that influence speed. This means the calculation of CdA is a simplified, vs trying to make the same calculation outside.

For years the Alphamantis Track Aero System was a go-to solution, and indeed our go-to solution, for measuring aerodynamic efficiency.
