Feeling snacky after surgery?

That’s not a failure, it’s a part of the journey for most people post-op.

Over time after surgery, it’s normal to feel hunger creeping back in.

Before you reach for a snack, pause and check in with yourself:
- Are you eating balanced meals with lean protein, veggies, wholegrains and enough fluids?
- Is your hunger physical, or does it feel emotional (e.g. in response to stress)?

If you’ve ticked all the boxes and still feel hungry, it might be time to stop telling yourself "I shouldn't be snacking!" (and ending up having something anyway) and start finding intentional ways to incorporate snacks into your day (so you can stop feeling ravenous).

Whether you're early in your post-op life or years out, remember, snacking isn’t “bad.” With intention and awareness, it can be part of your long-term success. 💪

“Just exercise,” they said… but here’s what they didn’t tell you.

After weight loss surgery, movement isn’t just about burning calories, it’s about protecting your metabolism, headspace, and long-term success.

If you’re feeling stuck, foggy, or fatigued… movement might be the missing link.

And the good news? It doesn’t have to drain you to be effective.

“Just eat less and exercise more” is the unhelpful anthem too many people hear after bariatric surgery, as if decades of struggle boil down to willpower.

It’s like telling someone with depression to “just be happy.” 😤

Here’s the truth:
Weight, behaviour, and biology are complex.
Shame isn’t a strategy.
And oversimplifying someone’s journey only makes it harder.

That’s why we do things differently here - with evidence, compassion, and zero judgement.

💬 We’d love to hear your take! Drop a comment or tag someone who gets it.

I know how it feels when the scale doesn’t reflect your hard work - it’s frustrating, confusing, and honestly, can be a really scary thing if you've struggled with your weight long-term.

But you’re not alone. Every bariatric patient hits this wall at some point. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed - and there are so many normal reasons why this could be happening.

Progress isn’t just about what the scale says. It’s about building trust in yourself again, step by step. And that starts with shifting the focus from punishment to support.

Okay, don't panic! The hair will come back...

A few months after weight loss surgery, most people will experience a little bit (or a lot) or hair loss & thinning.

And you might be thinking "Isn't weight loss surgery supposed to make me healthier? Why is my hair falling out!"

Hair loss happens when your body goes under stress (like a big surgery) - the stress causes the hair root to go into a sort of 'resting' state.

If you're taking all your recommended supplements, it's highly unlikely that your hair loss is caused by a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

That's why hair, skin and nails WON'T WORK. These pills work usually by correcting a deficiency that causes the hair loss. Not only that, but having these pills can mean the amount of some nutrients you have in combination with your multivitamin will be unsafe.

What can you do instead? Keep that protein up! Talk with your dietitian about whether you're getting in a reasonable amount & make sure to get protein into each of your meals PLUS a protein powder (if you can't get enough through food alone)

Got any more questions about hair loss? Post them in the comments!

Here's your breakdown of some quick, convenient protein options - Save it, add it to your shopping list and feel organised.

Now this isn't an exclusive list of course, and some options will give you a bigger boost than others. But however you mix and match your meals, this is your key to working towards more satisfying meals post-op that won't take forever to prep.
