Evening all 🙂
Been distracted ! Yesterday was my 16 years old girl birthday ! And wow what a milestone , lol for me at least ! I have made it so far , coz it sure is hard work !
But , as I have promised some of my younger patients to discuss contraception , and I have chosen to start with the implanon , as many refer to it as ‘the rod ‘ , so let’s keep it short and sweet
* implanon lasts for 3 years , so good contraception for young adults .
* you don’t have to remember to take a pill every day .
*insertion and removal is a very easy straight forward procedure , done in the rooms under local , shouldn’t take more than 5 to 10 minutes .
*as I always tell my patients , what happens to bleeding or side effects is really variable , and really you wouldn’t know till you try , as everyone is different .
* bleeding wise : I used the 5 rule , 1 of 5 won’t bleed at all , 1 of 5 will bleed all the time , 3 out of 5 will have some some sort of bleeding , might not as regular as your normal periods .
Hope that helps , please tag the young woman in your life , if you think she needs to learn or know more about contraception .
