Following on from my last post about minerals to create energy and vitality. Here are some excellent mineral rich foods that should be part of your diet if you are looking to zap your fatigue !
The energy stored in food in the form of fats, protein, and carbohydrates gets combined with oxygen in the tiny little factories inside your cells called mitochondria.
The food and oxygen then produce the form of energy used by our bodies called ATP. It powers everything. Once we stop producing energy, we die.
Some foods burn clean, while others create a lot of exhaust that damages our tissues and cells and produces free radicals that cause oxidation (similar to rusting) and inflammation. Our bodies produce their own antioxidants to protect us from this damage. When we overeat processed foods, our antioxidant systems can’t keep up.
To make energy from food and oxygen, the assembly line in your mitochondria needs specific vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients: B vitamins, coenzyme Q10, carnitine, zinc, magnesium, selenium, omega-3 fats, lipoic acid, N-acetylcysteine, vitamin E, vitamin K, sulfur, and others.
Our modern nutrient-depleted diet provides very few of these mitochondrial boosters. The simplest way to change this is to make sure to diet that consists of real, whole foods. And bonus points if you include the foods listed above that are full of the nutrients needed to keep producing mitochondria.
