Practitioners, do you sometimes struggle to apply what you know in theory? Do you often find that what you have learned in formal training doesn't quite fit the real-world, high-stress and relational settings you work in?

What makes Collective Being trainings different is that our approach is both evidence-based and body-based — because we understand how deeply trauma and stress impact people's nervous systems and physical bodies. Our trainings are grounded in this as well as best-practice frameworks AND 7 years of service delivery.

That means the approaches we train you in are current, impactful, and informed by what actually works in practice.

Collective Being’s early vision as ‘State of Being’ (the organisation we were first known as) was to ‘broaden access to yoga and mindfulness’. In the 7 years since, we have learnt so much more about what access means, and about the scope of somatic approaches that support people to be well.

Together, the Collective Being team has learnt from each other’s lived experiences, and we have invited others with lived experience to share with us, to teach us, and to guide us to be more accessible to more people.

The Collective Being team have trained together, reflected together, and collectively crafted an approach to what we do.

Together, we have worked with and learned from over 9,000 participants and 47 different service providers ❤️

~

Some words from Jo, a Founder and the Director of Collective Being:

“As someone who burnt out in multiple previous roles in the social justice sector, and experienced dissonance between the goals of the work and internal cultures of organisations, it is the approach to our work at Collective Being that brings me the most purpose and joy. It is the deep listening, the always-learning, the commitment to embodying our values, and the collective push back against a system that exhausts, ignores and excludes so many. For us, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it, that matters.”

~

We would like to thank all who joined us on Sunday for a beautiful afternoon of sound, soma and story.

A special thanks to the amazing and for your talent, for the space, and for catering and for capturing the event in images ✨

Amidst an ever-growing demand for our offerings, we are proud to announce our Community Wellbeing Fund: free and subsidised trauma-sensitive wellbeing programs for under-resourced organisations and community groups. This fund will enable Collective Being to expand our service even more to those who need it the most ❤️

Our highly skilled team will be delivering a total of 12 free and subsidised 8-week wellbeing programs.

The programs to choose from are:

Soma Play (designed for children aged 5-12 years)

Soma Skills (designed for young people aged 13-25 years)

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (designed for adults 18 years and over)

These programs have been developed over the past seven years in consultation with community service organisations and participants.

They are designed to support mental and physical health through trauma-sensitive movement, mindfulness and somatics.

This opportunity is specifically designed for under-resourced, grassroots, and community-led organisations for whom funding is a barrier to accessing our services. Additionally, we have a small number of subsidised programs available for organisations who are more resourced, but budget constrained.

Head to the link in our bio to read more about our service delivery experience, eligibility, and application process.

We are welcoming the return of our Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) Program in July ✨️

The in-person 8-week program will be held on Tuesdays from 6-7pm at 75 Reid St in Fitzroy North. The program begins on July the 23rd and concludes on September the 10th.

It will be facilitated by Anu (they/them) and supported by Claire (they/she).

Based on empirical evidence, this program is designed for survivors of trauma as an adjunctive to clinical or therapeutic treatment. It may look and feel quite different from what you imagine yoga to be.

TSY is developed around the foundational principles of choice, interoception, shared authentic experience, non-coercion, and present moment experience.

To find out more or register interest about this 8-week program and whether it might be right for you or someone you know, follow the link in our bio.

Note: Tiered pricing, payment plans, subsidised places, and payment through your NDIS package are available.

All Collective Being public offerings are free for First Nations people and communities. Please reach out directly to our Programs Coordinator, Alexia, at alexia@collectivebeing.org to arrange your place.

Registrations close at the end of day on July the 9th.

Introducing our newly revised youth program ~ Soma Skills ✨

Designed for young people aged 13-23 years old, this program shares practical and embodied tools for wellbeing. Drawing on insights from our previous youth programs with services including the ASRC, Foundation House, STREAT, Melbourne City Mission, the Brotherhood of St Laurence, Travencore School and many others, Soma Skills is an experiential wellbeing program that integrates body-based mindfulness strategies with group discussion, individual reflections and space for personal adaptations.

We generally offer this program as an 8 week pilot to new partner orgs. Soma Skills can also be adapted into an ongoing offering for your service.

To learn more, watch our previous reel on this program, and get in touch with our programs Coordinator, Alexia (alexia@collectivebeing.org) ✨
