Keloid scars are raised, thickened scars that form when the skin produces too much collagen during the healing process.

They can grow beyond the boundaries of the original injury and may continue to thicken over time.

In this case, the patient developed keloid scarring on the back following acne. These scars can be difficult to treat and may cause both cosmetic concern and physical discomfort.

Over the weekend, members of the DIV team attended and presented at the 2026 ASCPD Symposium. As ASCPD President, Professor Greg Goodman AM led a program showcasing the latest advances in skin health, cosmetic procedures, and patient care.

Several of our experts, including Dr Michaela Zallmann, Dr Katherine Armour, Dr Lee Mei Yap, Dr Michael Rich, Dr Stefania Roberts, Katy Wallace, and Mike Clague, presented and chaired sessions covering topics such as cosmetic enhancements and facial aesthetics, neck procedures, innovations in skin health, rosacea management, skin cancer prevention and cosmeceutical skincare. Daniela Borzillo also chaired sessions on practical strategies for practice management and clinical guidance.

It was inspiring to see the latest advancements in dermatology, and we look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of innovation and patient care.

Basal Cell Carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that often appears on sun-exposed areas such as the ears, face, and scalp. It grows slowly but should be treated promptly.

Professor Greg Goodman AM performed Mohs Micrographic Surgery to remove a BCC on this patient’s ear. Each layer of the removed tissue is examined under a microscope to ensure complete removal of the skin cancer. The area is then carefully sutured to promote optimal healing.
