As a parent with a fitness background as well as Remedial Massage. Today was a special day spent with my teenage son giving him his first exercise program. I explained to him why core strength warm up exercises are so important before just walking in and starting to lift heavy weights, actually it is the same in our everyday life such as gardening, moving house, lifting heavy boxes , carrying heavy bags of shopping, bending over, standing/sitting for long periods. Getting up or from the floor . I explained to him the trunk of your body must be strong first to support the limbs that are lifting things. It is what helps stabilise the body when the body moves in various ways such as lifting / twisting/bending etc.. As a weak core can affect your posture, if various parts of the body become weak and tight, then that can bring on pain and then that pain can limit range of motion . Restricted range of motion then can flow on to limiting your every day activities. I explained why it is so important to not walk out the gym without doing cool down stretches . As the muscles have been contracting, shortening, so are now tight, so they need to be lengthened back out and loosened which stretching does and helps give us improved range of motion. Alot like how remedial massage therapy can also assist including cupping by loosening the fascia and PNF assisted stretching and so many more massage techniques. I showed him correct technique of exercises to avoid injury and how to know how many reps and sets to do and not overtrain . We had the best day and it will be a great memory for me as a parent giving him an important lesson in life. Especially more important later in life when we start to loose our muscle mass if we donโt include strength training in our everyday life. Strength is medicine โค๏ธ๐ช๐๐
