🤝 To All Birth Support People: You Are Essential! 🤝
✨As a midwife, I’ve witnessed countless births, and I can tell you unequivocally: your support person is pivotal in the birthing room. Your presence, support, and active participation can profoundly impact the birthing person’s experience.
Here are three ways you can be an invaluable source of comfort and strength during labor:
1. Be The Advocate & Communicator 🗣️: You are often the bridge between the birthing person and the care team. Help communicate their birth preferences, ask clarifying questions, and ensure their voice is heard, especially when they might be deeply focused on labor.
2. Master the Comfort Measures 🙌🏻: Learn and practice comfort techniques before labor. This includes counterpressure for back pain, massage, guiding breathing, or simply offering hydration. Being hands-on and knowing how to help is incredibly empowering for both of you.
3. Provide Unwavering Presence & Encouragement 💗: Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is just be there. Hold their hand, offer a reassuring gaze, tell them how amazing they’re doing, and remind them of their strength. Your calm, loving presence can be a powerful anchor.
Your role is vital, and your support makes a monumental difference. You’re not just a bystander; you’re a crucial part of the birthing process!
