Medicare-subsidised lung cancer screening is now available for eligible Australians, through the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP).

In most cases in Australia, by the time lung cancer is diagnosed, the cancer has already spread beyond the lungs, and when it is in late stages. The program aims to detect lung cancer early, which means patients can access more effective treatment options.

You may be eligible if you:
🔹 Are aged 50–70
🔹 Have no symptoms of lung cancer
🔹 Are currently smoking, have a history of 30 pack-years of smoking or quit within the last 10 years

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common type of newly diagnosed cancer and second deadliest in Australia. While a large majority of newly diagnosed bowel cancer cases occur in people aged 50 years and over, 1 in 9 Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer are under the age of 50 – thee disease does not discriminate, affecting people of all ages.

It is recommended that people travelling during the influenza season receive a flu vaccine.

Australians who have received a current southern hemisphere flu vaccine and are travelling later in the year to the northern hemisphere during their flu season (usually October to May) may receive a second dose of the flu vaccine before departure.

Ask your GP about the recommended immunisations to stay healthy during your travels.

- Haematological disorders
- Chronic metabolic disorders
- Chronic kidney diseases
- Chronic neurological conditions
- Long-term aspirin therapy in children aged 5 to 10 years old
