Breastfeeding is the biological norm. We see the mammals at the zoo pop their babies onto the breast so easily and feed them without worrying about positioning or latch. Why is breastfeeding so easy for some women yet so hard for others? That’s the million dollar question. I’ve observed over the years that most of the time it’s due to incorrect positioning, the latch and hold aren’t lining up. It’s like a lock and key, if your not putting the key into the lock correctly it’s not going to open the lock. LC’s and IBCLC’s are great at helping new mums with positioning. If positioning is correct but it’s uncomfortable for mum to breastfeed then we need to look at what else is going on. Looking at the babies mouth anatomy is a good start. That way we can rule out oral ties such as tongue and lip ties. So to all the new mums out there having a hard time breastfeeding and feeling guilty that you are struggling to feed your baby get someone who is educated in oral ties to check your baby and look into their mouth. ❤️
🚨 Struggling to feed? It might be tongue tie! 🚨
Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) isn’t just about how a baby’s tongue looks—it’s about what it can’t do. 👅❌
When movement is restricted, it can lead to:
⚠️ Painful or ineffective breastfeeding
⚠️ Difficulty latching or staying on the breast
⚠️ Fussiness and frustration during feeds
⚠️ Speech and oral development challenges later on
The problem? Tongue tie is often overlooked or misdiagnosed. Many parents are told “it’s fine” when their baby is actually struggling.
Your baby deserves the right support. 💕 If feeding feels harder than it should, trust your instincts and seek expert guidance.
