Not just a cute cuddle buddy!

Weighted animal toys are a great y go-to tool to help kids feel calm, focused, and regulated. The gentle pressure provides soothing sensory input, supports emotional regulation, and even helps with attention during seated tasks.

Perfect for home, school, or therapy—these little friends do big work! 💙💚

Ever feel like your child resists even the simplest requests?
You’re not alone—and it might not be “defiance.” It might be a need for autonomy, processing time, or safety. 💙💚

Enter: Declarative Language.
This low-pressure, connection-first approach shifts the focus from telling to sharing—and it can be a game-changer, especially for neurodivergent children, including those with a PDA profile.

Instead of: “Put your shoes on.”
Try: “It’s wet outside. Shoes will help keep your feet dry.”
You’re offering information, not issuing a demand—and that small shift builds trust, collaboration, and regulation.

Want to learn more about declarative language and how it supports children with a PDA profile?
Visit the PDA Society website for brilliant resources, examples, and family-friendly guidance.

Let’s meet our kids where they are—with language that empowers, not pressures. 💙

Supporting Sensory Needs Through Proprioceptive Activities

Every body has sensory needs — and some bodies thrive with more input through joints and muscles. That’s called proprioception, and it helps us feel where we are in space, move safely, and regulate energy levels.💪🏼✋🏼

Swipe for some activities to get you started ➡️

These activities aren’t “fixes” — they’re supportive tools that honor how each person’s nervous system works best. 💛

🌟 Why it matters:
These activities can help someone regulate energy, reduce overwhelm, and prepare for transitions or tasks. Think of them as sensory supports, not behavior tools. Kids (and adults!) should always have choice and agency in how they engage.

📚 Book Spotlight: The Explosive Child 💥

This book by Dr. Ross Greene reminds us: “Kids do well if they can.” Challenging behaviour isn’t defiance—it’s communication.

Many neurodivergent children are navigating the world with lagging skills in flexibility, regulation, and problem-solving.

At Baobab Therapy, we love how this book centres empathy, collaboration, and respect. Behaviour isn’t something to control—it’s something to understand. 💛
