Treating the pregnant patient is one of my most favorite things.. and I am so blessed to be working along side a group of osteopaths at The fertile project who are just as passionate about working with pregnant bodies as myself.
We have all done extra studies in the field of obstetrics.. where we see our role within pregnancy care is so much more then helping with aches and pains. We also help with
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝlabour preparation
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝpregnancy yoga and Pilates
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝoptimal maternal positioning and spinning babies
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝincontinence and pelvic floor treatment and rehab
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝpelvic floor labour prep.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝspecific treatments aimed to create space in the pelvis and to release tension in the uterine ligaments.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝpregnancy exercise safe programs
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝlabour breathing and pushing strategies
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝeducation on the immediate postpartum period!
Many facets of pregnancy care is multifactorial and I truly believe the fertile project with its exceptional practitioners ranging from naturopathy .modernmedicine to acupuncturists nutritionists and massage therapy along with our osteopaths together are Melbournes premier pregnancy (including preconception & postnatal care) clinic.
If there are any specific topics youโ€™d like covered please let us know!

FSH stimulates the development of the ovarian follicles. High levels can lead to a reduced number and quality of eggs or indicate premature menopause. High FSH often presents with low oestrogen levels, which may be affecting the development of your eggs and uterine lining. Ideally, FSH should be < 6 at day 2-3 of your cycle. โฃ

LH regulates the menstrual cycle by stimulating oestrogen and progesterone ovarian production and it triggers ovulation during mid cycle. High LH is often found in women with PCOS or it may indicate ovarian ageing, where the ovaries do not respond to normal LH levels.โฃ
โฃ
The ratio of FSH:LH is really important, and should be 2:1 (eg FSH 6, LH 3). If it is the other way around, or LH is 2-3 times higher than FSH (eg. LH 8 FSH 3),that may be diagnostic for PCOSโฃ

Oestrogen is secreted by the ovarian follicles. It is in charge of the fertile quality of the cervical fluid, it stimulates egg maturation and prepares the uterus for implantation. Low E2 can lead to immature eggs or prevent eggs from implanting due to a thin endometrium. High E2 may indicate oestrogen dominance, fibroids or endometriosis, and comes with all manner of associated hormonal symptoms โฃ

You period bleed is like your monthly health report card. The colour, the texture, the amount and any associated symptoms tell us sooooo much about what is going on with our bodies
Each and every body is unique
Each and every body has its own innate wisdom
Each and every body is always talking to us
Body literacy is all about understanding the language of our own body
As women our period symptoms, colour of our bleed, timing of our ovulation, or changes in our menstrual cycle are like little love notes gently telling us what is going on.
Take notice as your body whispers to you, then you donโ€™t have to hear it shouting ๐Ÿ’œ

|| CAFFEINE, CORTISOL & STRESS || on the back of this fab post from ๐Ÿ™, we are declaring this week caffeine, cortisol and stress week, starting tomorrow! Watch this space to learn how to keep your adrenals happy

The next month is going to be THE most challenging of my entire life๐Ÿ“† As of today...
-
Iโ€™m giving up coffee โ˜•๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ณโ €
For 1 month, Iโ€™m going completely cold-turkey๐Ÿฆƒโ €
-โ €
Why?โ €
Coffee stimulates the nervous system, sending cortisol levels up and triggering our flight or fight response. If youโ€™re someone whoโ€™s already stressed, restless, anxious or not sleeping, this is putting an enormous amount of pressure on your bodyโ€™s adrenals. High doses are also very damaging to your gut lining and have been shown to contribute to digestive disorders and bowel conditions like IBS, Chrones, colitis, and leaky gut.โ €
-โ €
I had my first coffee at 17 and honestly cannot recall a day without it since. Thatโ€™s 15 years๐Ÿ˜ณ My intake has grown increasingly worse as Iโ€™ve continued to compete and diet down for shows and shoots - what else do you reach for when youโ€™re tired and hungry?! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
-
In recent months I would be averaging 4 large coffees daily (so 8 shots) and thatโ€™s not even counting sugar free energy drinks and pre workouts on top๐Ÿ™ˆ Itโ€™s no wonder my latest blood tests showed my cortisol is through the roof๐Ÿ“ˆ
-
So for the next 30 days Iโ€™ll be swapping my long blacks and almond lattes for green tea and chai in a bid to save my adrenals from certain peril (and donโ€™t even mention decaf - thatโ€™s a whole other chemical sh*t storm)โ˜ ๏ธ
-โ €
Extremely grateful to and the team at for helping me get my health back on track๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ Wish me luck fam!

This is EXACTLY how my period used to feel. I used to imagine a devil inside my uterus, clawing his way to the outside world. Ladies, this is not normal. Painful periods are common, but common is NOT NORMAL. Donโ€™t let anyone tell you otherwise. It means your hormones are all over the shop and it can make you particularly hormotional
๐ŸŒธ
So, here's some stuff you can try yourself for happy hormones, pain free periods and a rockin good mood:
1. Magnesium ~ especially magnesium biglycinate. It's natures relaxing mineral both emotionally and physically. It may help improve mood and reduce pain and cramping ๐Ÿ˜‡
2. Eat plenty of fibre to help you poo ๐Ÿ’ฉbetter and clear unwanted oestrogen and other hormones
3. Vitamin B6~ helps to increase progesterone in breast tenderness. Also important for making our happy hormones. Happy dance ๐Ÿ’ƒ
4. Vitex (herb) is brilliant for PMS, acne and helping to regulate your cycle. This one is best prescribed by a qualified practitioner (Naturopath or Herbalist)
5. Cut out sugar & refined carbohydrates๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿช๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿก๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿž๐Ÿ•๐Ÿš๐Ÿ”
6. Stop soy milk! It may be interfering with your hormones
7. Get plenty of sleep. In bed by 10 all you night owls ๐Ÿ’ค
8. Turmeric and ginger daily for pain, inflammation and cramping
9. Omega 3's (fish oil, nuts and seeds) for pain, inflammation and mood๐ŸŸ
10. Think zinc for mood, hormone regulation, acne

We love this chart from It gives a fab snap shot of what is going on hormonally in each of the 4 phases of our cycle and some great tips to help support your hormonal health in each phase.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
Your menstrual cycle is so much more than just your bleed. It is best to think about it in itโ€™s 21-35 day entirety, where each phase influences the health and functioning of the next phase. As women, we cycle with nature, with the moon, with the ebb and flow of the tides, and within each stage of our reproductive lives from menarche through menstrual years to menopause (funny, all our hormone issues start with โ€œmenโ€- something in that...๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคฃ). Our hormones fluctuate, affecting our energy levels, concentration, appetite & digestion, fluid retention, libido, cervical mucous, moods (anxiety, frustration, temper, depression), coping mechanisms, satisfaction, sleep, motivation, social ability, how we feel about and within our bodies.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-
To support ourselves during these cyclical changes, we firstly need to know where we are in our cycle. Awareness allows us to understand whatโ€™s occurring at any point in time, and can improve the relationship with, and acceptance of our bodies and periods. It also allows us to adapt our behaviour, expectations and demands we place on ourselves. We can adjust our lifestyle, our diets, exercise and expectations to adequately support the phase we are in.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
Not only that, if you monitor your cervical mucous, you can also learn when you are at your most fertile. For both conception and contraception!
Remember, day 1 is the first day of your bleed, and your complete cycle finishes the day before your next bleed. There are loads of apps you can use to track your cycle, such as Period Tracker, Kindara or Clue. There is also the fabulous Daysy which accurately predicts ovulation and fertility on any given day.
