I believe Hypnobirthing Australia is the revolution of childbirth education, and all mothers should partake in this inspiring, fear releasing, endorphin enriching childbirth wisdom.
I am a practicing Midwife and Hypnobirthing Australia certified practitioner.
Firstly, I began my journey as a midwife to be with woman and support her, ground her, guide her to believe in her amazing body. To keep her and her baby safe by observing and monitoring her and her baby, and simultaneously guiding her to a peaceful and trusting place where she can birth her baby in a positive way, regardless of the circumstances of her labour and birth.
Although a large population of women were approaching labour in fear and unprepared for the challenges of childbirth.
It began to worry me that a large majority of women were becoming too fearful and doubtful to birth so I decided to do something about it.
The mother who inspired me…
She was in established labour and she was in total control. She was strong but she was serene. Her partner and mother were the same. It was as if they were doulas, they each had an important role and the 3 of them were so in tune with each other and supported the tranquil woman as she gave subtle cues as she began a surge. The room was dimly let, there was a guided hypnosis track playing guiding her to release and let go. I could tell she and her partner had done the preparation. They had the knowledge, they had practised the tools. And now they were in the moment they had been dreaming of. She and her partner were connected with each other, her body and baby and most importantly she believed in herself, she trusted herself. I remember this room was gushing with oxytocin and I thought this is how birthing should be.
This experience I had with this amazing woman and her support people inspired me to begin my journey as a hypnobirthing facilitator and what an honour and relief it has been.
I now have the honour of hearing the positive and empowered birth stories very similar to this young woman above that have completed the Hypnobirthing Australia course with me!
Hypnobirthing is realistic…
As a midwife I completely understand with compassion and truth that not all births unfold as preferred by the mother. I have experienced this lead to women feeling disappointed in themselves and upset about the unexpected road their labour and birth went down.
However, what I personally love about this birth method is it teaches you to embrace, but remain informed and in control of whatever direction your pregnancy, labour and birth may need to take. This birth method also teaches a pregnant women’s rights so she and her partner have the power and the knowledge to make sensible, informed decisions and choices.
I also love that all the material taught in Hypnobirthing Australia is evidence based and realistic. The knowledge and tools will prepare you for whatever road your pregnancy, labour and birth takes. Personally I believe this is so important in having a positive birth experience and for the understanding of why a birth unfolded the way it did.
So what is Hypnobirthing?
The “Hypnosis” part of Hypnobirthing Australia is about guiding you to positively change your mindset on a subconscious level. Hypnobirthing guides you to recondition your subconscious, to release fears associated with labour and birth and teaches you to condition yourself to stay calm and in control so you naturally release the hormones during labour and birth that allow your body to birth your baby.
Hypnobirthing teaches you and your partner many beautiful guided hypnosis techniques for total relaxation and trust. It teaches you the mechanisms of labour and birth and why and how to physically and mentally prepare. It teaches your partner relaxing massage and acupressure. I always left each session buzzing and filled with endorphins and passion and excited to one day to birth a baby of my own.
My dream is for Hypnobirthing Australia to become the norm in child birth education, so all women and their partners learn and share the power of the subconscious. I want women to possess the tools to erase negative associations of childbirth and replace it with knowledge and preparation towards a positive birth experience.
