💬 But first, comment POSTPARTUM for a copy of our free Postpartum Blood Testing Guide 🩸

Here’s what you SHOULD expect at your 6 week postpartum check-up. And a reminder that you can ask for them if they’re not offered!:

• Check stitches or wounds (c-section/perineal tear)
• Mental health check-in (including screening for postnatal depression/anxiety)
• Physical check: breasts (to check for blocked ducts) + reproductive organs
• Discuss contraception options (the key word here is options, and it’s not just the contraceptive pill)
• General advice for returning to exercise
• Breastfeeding discussion and referral for support to a Lactation Consultant (if needed)
• Referral for thorough blood testing to check nutritional status and thyroid function

This should be the BARE minimum.

We also recommend you also consider:
• Seeing a women’s health physio to check pelvic floor function and recovery.
• Support from a nutritionist or naturopath for a much deeper dive into your nutritional status, and preventative strategies for postpartum depletion 👑
• Psychology sessions for mental health support through this time of immense change (even if you feel you are coping well).

The weaning journey can feel like an emotional rollercoaster, and that’s completely normal, BUT it doesn’t mean that it is easy. As your body transitions from breastfeeding, major hormonal changes are taking place that can affect both your mind and body.
