Hi all,
Long time no communication. Hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Bit of a different one tonight.

Jacinta is doing an assignment for her year 11 society and culture class, based on the impact of childhood cancer on adolescents. Part of the project requires her to do her own research, so she's put together this survey.

If u know an adolescent (10-19yo) that has had cancer, would you mind checking this out. It's all confidential and your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

💜Kirsten

Hi everyone, my name is Jacinta Gomez and I am a year 11 student. I am currently completing a Mini PIP (Personal Interest Project) for Society and Culture. It would mean a lot if you could take the time to fill this out so that I can collect data to use in my Mini PIP.

This week marks four years since Jacinta’s diagnosis and today 4yrs since the creation of this FB page. What a crazy time that first week was, with friends rallying around offering all sorts of support and the conception of this fundraising idea which went crazy.

The anniversary of diagnosis always brings up intense emotions and the current COVID situation and the isolation has brought back some deeper ones. Whilst these memories were challenging, we still remain eternally grateful for all the positives we have gained from our cancer experience.

Due to the current COVID situation we have decided not to send out our yearly request to schools to join our fundraising cause. With the unpredictable term ahead for schools and teachers we don’t wish to put more pressure on their time and workload.

This does not mean that fundraising for Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer, John Hunter Childrens’ Hospital or any other great cause needs to necessarily cease. The Every Day Hero page is still open and the Hospital will always accept donations directly.

If this does turn out to be our last year, it’s not a bad way to go out.
2016: $16 050
2017: $11 000
2018: $15 010
2019: $9 593
2020: $107. Grand Fundraising total that blows our minds= $51 760!!!!!!!

(Please be aware that the Every Day Hero page doesn’t show all donations, only the ones that are made through the website with a credit card. Most schools donated using cheques/cash)

Whilst we reminisce about our journey this week, we will always be thankful for all the support we had for this cause. Not just the financial donations but your willingness to follow our story and learn about the treatment regime that some kids go through. The kind and encouraging words you all gave us to help get us through the tough times.

I’m sure any patient currently utilising the isolation wards during this COVID pandemic and restricted visiting period, will be enjoying the room upgrades. The extra entertainment, the cleanliness of the new rooms and the extra comfort. Each and everyone of them will be thanking you too.

Stay safe xo Kirsten

J1 renovations.

Here's a little sneak peek of the renovations that your hard earned fundraising has contributed to.

The nurses station is now finished and looks brilliant. The old one was probably what most people see at their GPs.

Sadly, the two rooms behind the nurses station that were renovated at the same time, are constantly in use. Making photographs tricky, but we are still pursuing that.

This room photo gives a bit of an idea, showing the new style of parent bed. These 2 rooms were a little smaller than the other isolation rooms on the ward. So, they built out a little. Building the parent bed into a bay window kind of scenario. We haven't seen inside these rooms either, so this little sneak peek is exciting.

On other exciting news, Jacinta had her 2 monthly check up today, and at 18 months post treatment is still going great!!!

Thanks CanTeen, for another amazing opportunity for Jacinta to grow.
On the weekend, she attended a youth leadership training course.
The youth leadership team are involved in organising events for members and welcoming new members.
They were inspired by a special speaker, discussed building resilience, built on the team dynamics and planned for the exciting year ahead.
Can't wait to see where this journey takes her.

Morisset Netball have once again kick started our fundraising for the year!
On Sunday, they held their registration day and included a cupcake stall for CfKwC.
Whilst it was a very hot day, there was a pretty good turn out. But cupcakes were not the draw card. Who wouldn't put up with a bit of heat to meet an Australian Netball player!?!?
Maddy Turner from the Swifts and Diamonds, put the girls through some training drills whilst parents enjoyed a cake.
Thanks Morisset Netball, for again supporting our cause and getting us started 💜

So it appears it's a new year!! Time just flies by.
We are still here and still planning to continue fundraising this year. Stay tuned 💜
